this will only be the 2nd time that i have left the island in 2007. went to seattle for that pop conference thing in april. i only leave the island if i have to read in public somewhere. i haven't been to new york in years! not since that bunnybrains show at knitting factory with devendra and roger adultery. that feels like a lifetime ago. remember that, dan? that was fun.

scott seward, Thursday, 26 July 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.housingworks.org/usedbookcafe/

danbunny, Thursday, 26 July 2007 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

u mean this avant show?.."MUSIC: Avant-Noise
The Bunnybrains w/ Abra, Samara Lubelski, and James Jackson Toth

when: Sat 12.27 (9pm)
where: Knitting Factory (74 Leonard St, 212.219.3006)
price: $10
links: Event Info
Some bands strive to live in the public eye, while others, like Bunnybrains, happily wallow in their own obscurity — and want to remain obscure, thank you. For 15 years now, Dan Bunny, and whoever happened to be in the room with him, wrote (and then destroyed) the book on noisy, willfully miscreant, psychedelic, free-form punk. Joining them are followers and peers Abra (featuring Young God's Devendra Banhart), post-rock vet Samara Lubelski, and James Jackson Toth (a member of the underrated Blood Group, among other affiliations). (AW)

What do you like to do in obscurity? Our favorite answer wins a pair of tickets to this show."

danbunny, Thursday, 26 July 2007 23:11 (eighteen years ago)

that was a good time. i couldn't hear for months. good thing about never going anywhere is that you remember when you did go somewhere much more fiercely. it's more of a treat. i dined out on that seattle trip for months. if i went somewhere every week i would forget where i was.

scott seward, Thursday, 26 July 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

i went away 2 years ago and i still havent come back

danbunny, Friday, 27 July 2007 00:53 (eighteen years ago)

i'm gonna try to leave work early for the reading, but will def. make the show.

ian, Friday, 27 July 2007 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

scott seward, Friday, 27 July 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

ian i thought that was earlyish?

tehresa, Tuesday, 21 August 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

what time will ppl be at cakeshop?

tehresa, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

OK, so if anyone wants to say hi to me, I'm the short guy wearing a canary yellow Black Cat t-shirt. With the hair that needs cutting.

Have not decided yet if I'm going to the show part, but the reading part for sure.

Is this Housing Works near any Banh Mi sources?

Jon Lewis, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

dont tink so, but theres a cabbi take out place just up the block that has good cheap food...forget if its pakistani or otherwise

bb, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I'm with Ian, the magazine thing starts at 6, so I might be late for the reading but will check with peeps and try to swing by HW to catch you all. Show seems likely as well.

Laurel, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

what is the magazine thingy?

bb, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

pakistani place is lahore, it's great.

there's a banh mi place down on broome or something.

hstencil, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, Mott and Broome, that place is good. Might try to hit it.

Jon Lewis, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

so indecisive. want to go to this but don't want to leave the neighborhood, plus have been out of the house all day thanks to shitty landlord and workmen, would like to have some time to chill at home later.

hstencil, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

tehresa, Thursday, 23 August 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

bell_labs, Thursday, 23 August 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

ian, Thursday, 23 August 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

i'm sorry ian :(((

i really had good intentions. but we are moving sooooooooo slow. i;m afraid we would never get there. and maria wants to hang with her sister when she gets out of work. which by now isn't that far off.

i will do up brooklyn sometime though. promise.

scott seward, Thursday, 23 August 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

i haven't eaten yet today. i am living off of the beer in my cells.

scott seward, Thursday, 23 August 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

Scott I will gladly buy the Yeti issue. It's the next one?

I have never had pies n thighs. There, I said it.

Jon Lewis, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:25 (eighteen years ago)

its good but theres not really any reason for everyone to be so fascinated by it except for maybe the funny rhyming name and the weird hole in the wall location and the tasty fried chicken mac n cheese and pies... oh wait

jhøshea, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

yeah no reason to be fascinated other than it's the best bbq in nyc for the price, and unlike most bbq in nyc it's not completely pretentious and overpriced and bullshit. it's just cheap-ass southern food the way it should be.

if people wanna do dinner, i'd say 8, maybe earlier. could meet y'all there.

hstencil, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

scots bit was one of the best readings ive dealt with...esp for a rock crit reading

still sorry i skipped bunnybrains, but knew id be out till 3 if i didnt...still good to meet scott and see dan.

maybe dinner...

bb, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

ian is texting me about bbq in south slope now...and i kinda want to go to home depot!

bell_labs, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:43 (eighteen years ago)

pnt: also being attached to r0ckstar does not hurt at all

i think i will join u guyz and eat there tonite

sleep, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

He's going to eat bbq for lunch AND dinner? Sweet christ--!

Jon Lewis, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

(Ian I mean)

Jon Lewis, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

bell_labs, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

hstencil, Thursday, 23 August 2007 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

ian, Thursday, 23 August 2007 20:09 (eighteen years ago)

those things are damn good.

lauren, Thursday, 23 August 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

"Chicken In A Biskit" was my favorite junk cracker as a child so I suspect I would like Chicken Biscuit...

Jon Lewis, Thursday, 23 August 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

the chicken biscuit looks amazing, but it doesn't come with a side i think?! neeeed collards with chunks of pork

bell_labs, Thursday, 23 August 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

Do they make Hop'n John at this place??!!

Jon Lewis, Thursday, 23 August 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

no.

the collards were SO good last time i had them.

lauren, Thursday, 23 August 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

hstencil, Thursday, 23 August 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

danbunny, Thursday, 23 August 2007 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

i would not exactly call pnt cheap, but true, it is not as expensive as other bbq places.

i woulda gone but didn't hear from anyone u_u. maybe tomorrow?

also linds: if you purchase side w/ chicken biscuit it ends up same price as a "box".

tehresa, Thursday, 23 August 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

$8 for way too much food is cheap in my book.

hstencil, Friday, 24 August 2007 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

the pulled pork portions can be a bit small.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 24 August 2007 00:53 (eighteen years ago)

Small portions of pulled pork are about right for me. So good, but always a walk on the razor's edge between ecstasy and dyspepsia.

Jon Lewis, Friday, 24 August 2007 01:05 (eighteen years ago)

man, the pork at queen's hideaway is good

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 24 August 2007 01:09 (eighteen years ago)

only time i've been there i had the seafood gumbo, which was pretty great, but not amazing. def. need to go back to qh again soon.

hstencil, Friday, 24 August 2007 01:28 (eighteen years ago)

as you likely know, they change the menu a lot so if i'd look online to see if they have a website with it posted to avoid disappointment

i had to "settle" for skirt steak :D

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 24 August 2007 01:33 (eighteen years ago)

yeah they change it every day! weekends are s'posed to be fancier. i've only been there on a tuesday.

okra fritters, holmes.

hstencil, Friday, 24 August 2007 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

sanskrit, Friday, 24 August 2007 02:16 (eighteen years ago)

the day after it became ikea home furnishings forum/old man complaint dept.

hstencil, Friday, 24 August 2007 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 24 August 2007 02:43 (eighteen years ago)

maria's sister and brother-in-law took us to this restaurant called PRUNE tonight around the corner from their place. sooooooooooooo good. not too fancy. casual and simple, but so yummy and fresh. pork shoulder with salsa verde. oh man so good. definitely chowhound territory i guess, but just such a great dinner. and definitely nothing like it at home.

such a great time all around. maria snuck out to see the serra at moma while i stayed home recuperating before dinner reading metal mags.

thanks again, you guys! we will be back for sure. tomorrow morning we head home to the rock.

scott seward, Friday, 24 August 2007 04:48 (eighteen years ago)

heya - maria here - thanks pals for the good times in new yawk - sorry we didn't make it to brooklyn. we are a bit lame. the bunny show was purrfect. hmmmm prune. next summer we think we'll trade our house on mv for an apartment in ny for the month of august. takers?

Maria :D, Friday, 24 August 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

i thought i was going to be logged in as skot.
