i want a periodic table shower curtain http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/41WhX4zgDdL._SS400_.jpg though i'm kind of afraid it will look too "dorm"
this one is also awesome: http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/images/I/4155JCSRBEL._SS500_.jpg
― bell_labs, Sunday, 19 August 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)
they are both $30 though which seems like a LOT for a shower curtain
― bell_labs, Sunday, 19 August 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)
Depends! I bought a $30 shower curtain mebbe 7 years ago but it's the heavy vinyl kind and endlessly cleanable without losing awesomeness (it's clear with silver glitter all throughout). You have to commit to cleaning it, though, not throwing away when it gets ganky.
― Laurel, Sunday, 19 August 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)
I saw butterflies hatching at the Seattle Science Center last week.
― Laurel, Sunday, 19 August 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)
both of those curtains look awesome. link?
― s1ocki, Sunday, 19 August 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)
slocki they're here: http://simplememoryart.com/shop.html
it says that they have them at the brooklyn museum store! how convenient! i will check them out today.
― bell_labs, Sunday, 19 August 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)
Think about getting the curtain rings with little beads on them, so they roll better -- it will mean less pulling on the curtain/less stress on the vinyl at the holes.
― Laurel, Sunday, 19 August 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)
ooh the weather and solar system ones are sweet.
― s1ocki, Sunday, 19 August 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

― river wolf, Sunday, 19 August 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)
I may get those.
― forksclovetofu, Sunday, 19 August 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)
i just bought the official mta nyc subway map shower curtain. it's terrific bathroom reading.
― get bent, Sunday, 19 August 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)
I cant have shower curtains cause I have a glass shower door thing, but suddenly I am tempted to go get glass paint and paint shit all over my shower door. What would rock?
― Trayce, Monday, 20 August 2007 12:45 (eighteen years ago)
awesome, jody. i wonder if i had that i would come up with awesome stealth time-saving routes to places, since i often have epiphanies in the shower.

― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 20 August 2007 13:17 (eighteen years ago)
it kinda does look like it belongs in a freshman dorm, linds perhaps i can interest you in a van gogh / klimt / dali shower curtain instead? ;p
― elmo argonaut, Monday, 20 August 2007 13:59 (eighteen years ago)
laurel, did the life cycle of the butterfly curtain look nice in person? i didn't make it to the museum yesterday but it looks v. v. pretty and i think i may order it.
― bell_labs, Monday, 20 August 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, I don't mean that I saw the shower curtain, I mean that I saw actual butterflies hatching out of coccoons in a butterfly house. :) Sorry that is less helpful.
― Laurel, Monday, 20 August 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)
my shower curtain is kind of ugly. laurel has seen it.
― lauren, Monday, 20 August 2007 14:50 (eighteen years ago)
i thought laurel was going to say that actual butterflies hatched from her shower curtain.

― Laurel, Monday, 20 August 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)
30 dollars is too much for shower curtains best left in your first apt.

i think the tree/butterfly one is a nice design. it would make me happy to have a tree in my bathroom! the writing on it may be too busy though. or maybe it is not acceptable to have shower curtains intended for children as a 28 year old and i should just get a boring one. hmmm.
― bell_labs, Monday, 20 August 2007 21:21 (eighteen years ago)
target had only hideous ones though.
― bell_labs, Monday, 20 August 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)
maybe a "nice" one rather than "boring". (then again the nice one i had was also hideous and insane...it lasted too long. i currently have boring one, but like most of my apt, im slowly taking care of these issues)
― bb, Monday, 20 August 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)
nice ones - where to find?
― bell_labs, Monday, 20 August 2007 21:27 (eighteen years ago)
SHOWER CURTAIN IDEAS, PATENTS PENDINGS
* Shower curtain smells like strawberries or roses or THE OCEAN whenever water hits it.
* Shower curtain glows in the dark.
* Shower curtain works like old Hypercolor shirts, changing color when wet or touched. Play on it like those new Microsoft touchscreens.
* Shower curtain with waterproof iPod pocket. (Waterproof hairnet sold separately.)
* Shower curtain with girls (or guys) that take their tops off when it gets warm, like novelty inkpens and shot glasses.

abc? hmm, good question...lemme get back to you on that.
― bb, Monday, 20 August 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)
Target.com does have some v appealing prints but I can't tell the quality from here and they are still probably what Ben would consider unsophisticated -- pretty much anything other than white or clear or white-on-clear or something v minimalist is going to be silly and "young" in some way. I say as long as it lets light through and you like it, go nuts.
The light thing is big for me, I hate solid ones that block and/or discolor the light in the shower (or the rest of the room).
― Laurel, Monday, 20 August 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)
the tiles in my bathroom are ugly black fake marble so no matter how sophisticated i get it's still gonna look bad. and the bathroom's small, so i want something somewhat transparent but also colorful and bright.
― bell_labs, Monday, 20 August 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)
There was a fancy home store in Soho years ago that always had nifty minimalist house decor stuff and design-award stuff but of course in those days I could barely find the same store twice, I was always getting so lost, so I don't remember where it was, and don't remember the name. So uh there. But they had terrific heavy vinyl shower curtains and that's where I got mine.
Now we have a lighter, cheaper one from Target with a silly "retro" print on it (not my choice) but admittedly it is hard to find an outdoor space big enough to properly scrub a dirty shower curtain so replacing it is sometimes easier.
― Laurel, Monday, 20 August 2007 21:51 (eighteen years ago)
hmm, that sounds like it could have been one of the places on wooster st? or mxypxlxyx or whatever that place is called...
― bell_labs, Monday, 20 August 2007 21:55 (eighteen years ago)

― bell_labs, Monday, 20 August 2007 22:00 (eighteen years ago)

― bell_labs, Monday, 20 August 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)
I think it might actually have been on Wooster after all, bell.

i want shower curtains that go all the way down, to the floor of my bathroom. how am i supposed to know the fucking inches. 72 should be enough for any shower.
― deeznuts, Monday, 20 August 2007 22:06 (eighteen years ago)
what Ben would consider unsophisticated
i never said unsofisticated...trust me, my 1st like 6 apt were full of fun and bad ideas...just, you know we get older, we can intensify our aesthitcs...the problem always being we have to take the apt we can aford. and in order to make them that way, the gddmned ownders buy the ugliest, cheapest materials...listen, yr a landlord, with a cheap building in an eh neighborhood. dot get into thinking youre gonna fucking fill the place wth design feature unless you wanna spend decent money. just use decent, simple shit, that wont make us look like striving trash.
god, im becoming a real snob again.
lndsy, buy whatever makes you happy...
― bb, Monday, 20 August 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)
yeah i hate the 72 inch shit! esp when the rod is bolted into the wall and you can't adjust it! last apt. i actually went and bought another shower rod so it could be lower and water wouldn't leak everywhere. xpost

― Laurel, Saturday, 25 August 2007 23:55 (eighteen years ago)
rrrobyn - those are from angela adams. except they are from her fancy "collection" line that costs ungodly amounts of money and are all specialty made. they had them at her store in portland (disclosure - my mom works there) and they are gorgeousss but cost tens of thousands of dollars. my mom's discount doesn't really make much of a dent getting me closer to having one, sadly!

the thing is, his work looks amazing installed in a gallery. in your home? if you're rich enough to have a hardly ever used artsy parlor room to entertain guests, it would look great. otherwise, in your everyday living room in might get to be a bit too much.

it would be fun to reprogram your family members' genital-height shower tiles to blast arctic freezewater all over their scrots & vages
― remy bean, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)
oh man last time i was home in maine, we went and visited some family friends who have been "fortunate" over the years and just built their dream house. they have all this automated bullshit; remote controls in every room, piped in stereo, window blinds & showers controlled by remote. they also included rooms for their "grandkids" even though neither of their adult children are married/engaged?! eek.
the coolest shower they had though has a floor made of pebbles. i bet it feels neat to stand on.
― bell_labs, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)
this thread makes me sad that i didn't get the butterfly/frog curtain, just some tasteful crinkly blue one. i heeded ben's advice.
― bell_labs, Friday, 28 September 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)
if i were rich i would pimp out my bathroom, my kitchen ... and that's really it. maybe i'd get an expensive couch and refuse to let guests sit on it. all the 'automation of the future' crap seems very epcot and tacky, like black mirrors and neon tiles ca. '87 -- i think it will age badly and end up costing an awful lot in maintenance.
― remy bean, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)
they did it pretty tastefully, i have to admit, it is really not mcmansiony at all and has a beautiful view. though, thanks to overlooking a tidal inlet, they get some serious mudflat sulfur smells which apparently they tried to call the cops/EPA about? welcome to the world of decomposing marine life, lol!
