Dr Morbius, Friday, 5 October 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago)

do these things typically fill up?

mizzell, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:25 (seventeen years ago)

The first one was never packed-to-the-gills, but it was pretty crowded between 10:30-12:30. And Oneida has a higher profile than that show's bands, I think.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:29 (seventeen years ago)

that is an interesting bill!

bell_labs, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:31 (seventeen years ago)

shit that looks great

another case where I almost wish it WASN'T free

also does anyone like Black Mountain, they're playing Southpaw next Thurs (not free), might try to go to that

dmr, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

who is simply saucer

dmr, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:35 (seventeen years ago)

I would be all over this. Alan Vega's first solo album has been on heavy rotation in my car. Ice Drummer!
Xpost
Simply Saucer=awesome Canadian psych punk! At least, that album Cyborgs Revisited. Not as into the more straightforward stuff.

Trip Maker, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:36 (seventeen years ago)

another case where I almost wish it WASN'T free

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:36 (seventeen years ago)

Simply Saucer is one of those acts that never released an album and hence became legends!

(oh ppl, no one in NYC goes to shit early, get there by 9 and you'll be fine)

Dr Morbius, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago)

bell_labs, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:46 (seventeen years ago)

less Insufferable Snob appeal here and NO RSVP

Dr Morbius, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

(if the NY Times Arts sec runs a piece on Simply Saucer this Sun, all bets are off obv)

Dr Morbius, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:49 (seventeen years ago)

Hm it's in my hood, too bad I do not like Oneida. :/

Laurel, Friday, 5 October 2007 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 5 October 2007 17:00 (seventeen years ago)

bell_labs, Friday, 5 October 2007 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

Cope has a long writeup on his website abt Simply Saucer in an old Album Of The Month column.

I had no idea they were reactivated...!

Jon Lewis, Friday, 5 October 2007 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

If any of the bands don't suit ya, retire to the DJ lounge downstairs.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 5 October 2007 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

let's hit this up early

sanskrit, Friday, 5 October 2007 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

Laurel, Friday, 5 October 2007 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

Jon Lewis, Friday, 5 October 2007 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

Dr Morbius, Friday, 5 October 2007 18:05 (seventeen years ago)

ian, Friday, 5 October 2007 18:18 (seventeen years ago)

Dr Morbius, Friday, 5 October 2007 19:07 (seventeen years ago)

xpost Er... Indeed it is, Bell! I saw "Sat." and didn't register "10/13".

But THAT saturday I will be in Bethesda Maryland for the Small Press Expo, drinking myself blind with nerdz.

Jon Lewis, Friday, 5 October 2007 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

jon lewis, pick up a copy of "maggots" while yer there.
got it the other day--mindboggling.

ian, Friday, 5 October 2007 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

The Maggot-- I think I have that-- that's the one with a cover of "Green Manalishi" on it right? Really good album.

Jon Lewis, Friday, 5 October 2007 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

i meant the new brian chippendale book, but i like the melvins too.

ian, Friday, 5 October 2007 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

sanskrit, Sunday, 14 October 2007 16:29 (seventeen years ago)

i showed up to this.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 14 October 2007 17:21 (seventeen years ago)

oneida were sooooooooooo great.

lauren, Sunday, 14 October 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

how was simply saucer?

hstencil, Sunday, 14 October 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

they were good! the beginning of the set most of their songs were short and poppy/garagey but toward the end they did a couple longer space jamz with the theremin.

hell everything was good. not that many four-band bills I'm willing to sit through nowadays but I liked everything. did go downstairs during part of alan vega but the song he did w/ oneida to end the set was cool.

said hi to a lotta people, fun night. I bought a Enemy Hogs from Lauren.

dmr, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:26 (seventeen years ago)

ol' south p

and what, Sunday, 14 October 2007 19:39 (seventeen years ago)

rocket usa with oneida backing was pretty amazing.

lauren, Sunday, 14 October 2007 22:07 (seventeen years ago)

I liked SS bcz they were more straight-ahead psych than I expected.

Alan Vega was kind of, um, the ranting exhumed corpse of Roy Orbison. (If Oneida had backed him throughout it mighta saved the spectacle.)

sanskrit, you calendar-challenged knave!

Dr Morbius, Monday, 15 October 2007 13:33 (seventeen years ago)

THIS SOUND IS ILLEGAL

Laurel, Monday, 15 October 2007 14:00 (seventeen years ago)

i'm sad i missed this! my friend's birthday dinner did not end until 10:45ish and i heard they were at capacity so i just went home.

bell_labs, Monday, 15 October 2007 14:08 (seventeen years ago)

The place was at cap for Simply Saucer but had cleared out a fair bit by the middle of Oneida's set. Pretty sure there was no line after SS.

Laurel, Monday, 15 October 2007 14:16 (seventeen years ago)

was oneida the last band to play? when i drove by at 11 there seemed to be a line (but maybe just people standing around outside?)

bell_labs, Monday, 15 October 2007 14:22 (seventeen years ago)

yes, Oneida probably went on close to 12:30.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 15 October 2007 14:32 (seventeen years ago)
