magnetic field : brooklyn heights

death by audio : williamsburg

kill, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:25 (seventeen years ago)

ha, death by audio is the only one i've never been to and it was the only one that i knew the neighborhood for. thanks.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:26 (seventeen years ago)

Don Pedro's is in Bushwick, and they don't serve Budweiser. Also, their sound sucks.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:38 (seventeen years ago)

u touring?

sanskrit, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:40 (seventeen years ago)

not touring, researching.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:42 (seventeen years ago)

laurel, what was the place where we saw that show last november? it was in williamsburg, yes?

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:44 (seventeen years ago)

death by audio looks capital-n noise, how is it?

might be in town last week of october

Milton Parker, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:48 (seventeen years ago)

THAT'S NOT THE VERRAZANO-NARROWS BRIDGE

or something like that.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:49 (seventeen years ago)

Ahaha. I didn't go with you to that thing, dude, you went and met N with offerings of pizza...I thought you were headed to Park Slope on that occasion, though.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:59 (seventeen years ago)

You def were, cos we shared that cab and we went down Flatbush... I forget where you were dropped off, though.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 02:00 (seventeen years ago)

no no no, the next night, the show. i can't remember the venue but i think it was williamsburg because i partied at the record store after the show....? i was really drunk.

incidentally, the bartender at that bar where i met norah and everyone else was working at southpaw during the powerpop fest.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 02:01 (seventeen years ago)

the bar was in park slope, on 5th i think?

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 02:04 (seventeen years ago)

OOOOHHH, that was Trash Bar. Sorry, I forgot.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 02:13 (seventeen years ago)

It's in Williamsburg.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 02:13 (seventeen years ago)

trash bar, thanks.

later gators.

xpost- yeah, i remember going to the atm at 3:40 in the morning so i could buy records. partying at a record store was kind of a bad idea considering buying records was one of my two biggest vices at that point.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

The other one being the ladies, obv.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 02:26 (seventeen years ago)

i think pizza would have been on the list before ladies at that point. weaknesses, yes. vices, not nearly as much as i would have liked.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 07:33 (seventeen years ago)

Also, their sound sucks.

arrgh! so otm! i've heard death by audio is just as bad, although i haven't been yet. that's where tonight's jay reatard show is.

lauren, Thursday, 11 October 2007 19:32 (seventeen years ago)

i saw magik markers at death by audio like a week ago. they kinda sucked! >:(

i didnt notice any terrible sound issues. the venue is just, like, a room. and theres another room. but both rooms are pretty small. it's not that great. that other place around the corner on kent is way more fun

sleep, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:02 (seventeen years ago)

I'd go to that but I have too much work to do. He's playing at least one more show, a packed CMJ showcase with DJ Oil and Kanine and all those people at Galapagos. Tonight sounds good. Any idea when he goes on? I really like the last album.

dan selzer, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:03 (seventeen years ago)

gosh, i don't know. i'm not sure if i'm going to make it out post-happy hour as my cold seems to have reactivated. a few whiskeys might be all i can handle.

lauren, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

it's really nasty out too.

so shitty that I'll feel bad ordering delivery.

not that bad though.

dan selzer, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:11 (seventeen years ago)

Oh shit, I forgot that was tonight. But it's horrible out and I have practice, so I think I'm skipping. HOWEVER next week is Nikki Corvette on Wed -- anyone? anyone? The week after, K Kahn & BBQ on the 25th!!

oh god... is kk at don pedro's?

lauren, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:20 (seventeen years ago)

No, it's at the Cakeshop, where the sound is SO MUCH better.

*Actually I don't remember the sound at Cshop, I'm just being catty.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

hmm, cakeshop thurs but "montana's party place" on friday. varet st btw graham and humboldt. huh?

lauren, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

ohhhh KK and BBQ. i think this may be another canadian band parking in my driveway.

Yerac, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:32 (seventeen years ago)

Apparently "Montana's Party Place" is Carey's house.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

ha. just checked and it's around the corner from don pedro's, closer to broadway.

lauren, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:38 (seventeen years ago)

Hmmm. Well, Lauren, let me know which one you want to go to. I'm sure we can arrange something.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:54 (seventeen years ago)

Possibly at Carey's house.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:54 (seventeen years ago)

i just talked to the canadian border patrol and king khan travel light. so, i may not be seeing them in their underwear.

Yerac, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:56 (seventeen years ago)

Don Pedro's is in Bushwick, and they don't serve Budweiser. Also, their sound sucks.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 11 October 2007 20:58 (seventeen years ago)

next week is Nikki Corvette on Wed -- anyone? anyone?

I WANNA GO!!!!!! i've been listening to the s/t lp on bomp all week. i saw her last fall when the busy signals opened for her at sub-t and she was a fucking BLAST!!! she was good at the powerpop thing but it's easy to look like you're having fun when there are 300 kids going nuts, at sub-t there were maybe 25 of us there and she was even better there.

i'd love to see me some kk/bbq action as well but they'll be here soon enough.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

i guess i'd rather go to cake shop, laurel.

lauren, Thursday, 11 October 2007 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

I'm see THE BOSS next wednesday!

dan selzer, Thursday, 11 October 2007 21:44 (seventeen years ago)

"if bruce springsteen's the boss then i fucking quit"

chicago kevin, Thursday, 11 October 2007 21:52 (seventeen years ago)

I'll be working overtime!

Speaking of working overtime, it's really fucking raining over here.

dan selzer, Thursday, 11 October 2007 22:03 (seventeen years ago)

Shit.

Laurel, Thursday, 11 October 2007 22:03 (seventeen years ago)

this is open to anyone in the northeast, not just new york: could someone buy me a can of b&m brown bread? i was gonna make some but what the fuck am i going to do with the left over bags of 3 different kinds of flour? anyway, they don't have brownbread in this godforsaken flat wasteland where i'm choosing to spend my life. i really want some. please help. thank you.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 20 October 2007 06:45 (seventeen years ago)

The Boss was AWESOME.

dan selzer, Saturday, 20 October 2007 15:09 (seventeen years ago)

that's good but that doesn't put brown bread in my belly.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 20 October 2007 19:29 (seventeen years ago)

wtf is brown bread? i mean, aside from like wheat or whatever.

hstencil, Saturday, 20 October 2007 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

it's made with rye flour, wheat flour, cornmeal, molasses (which turns it brown) and it's fucking GREAT when warm and served with cream cheese. it was a thanksgiving staple when my grandmother was still alive i probably haven't had it in 15 years. homemade is better but that shit out of a can is pretty good too.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 20 October 2007 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

hey, i just found out you can order it from amazon! i didn't know they had food. they have EVERYTHING!

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51SFVV4JZRL._SS500_.jpg

p.s. putting raisins in it is fucking criminal.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 20 October 2007 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

hstencil, Saturday, 20 October 2007 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

KT, I'd have sent you some but I've never seen/noticed it before so would have had to go on a grocery store recon. Happy amazoning!

Laurel, Saturday, 20 October 2007 20:26 (seventeen years ago)

rrrobyn, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:19 (seventeen years ago)

bread in a can??

i bought coffee in a can just so i could make brown bread. but i'm only like 1/10th of the way through the can so the craving will probably pass before i can make it.

you don't bake this bread, you STEAM it which is why it's really moist and yummy. especially in winter when the sun sets at like 4 in the afternoon and you've been out in the snow too long.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:25 (seventeen years ago)

boston brown bread

jhøshea, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:26 (seventeen years ago)

BOSTON BROWN BREAD

1 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. med. rye flour
1 c. yellow cornmeal
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. raisins (opt.)
2 c. buttermilk, room temp.
3/4 c. molasses

Generously grease 2 (1 pound) coffee cans or 3 (1 lb.) vegetable or fruit cans; set aside. In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour, rye flour, cornmeal, baking soda and salt. Add raisins, if desired. Toss to separate and coat with flour mixture.

In a medium bowl, combine buttermilk and molasses. Stir into flour mixture only until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn into prepared cans, filling evenly. Cover cans tightly with 2 layers of foil; tie with string. Place a rack in a large kettle. Place cans on rack. Place kettle over low heat. Add boiling water until halfway up cans. Cover; bring water to a gentle boil. Steam bread 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Add more boiling water during steaming, if necessary. Carefully remove bread from cans. Cool on racks at least 30 minutes before slicing. Makes 2 or 3 small loaves.

chicago kevin, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:26 (seventeen years ago)

it sounds a little bit like malt loaf.

lauren, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:28 (seventeen years ago)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d1/Malt_loaf.jpeg/250px-Malt_loaf.jpeg

it's real squishy and spongy.

lauren, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:31 (seventeen years ago)

brown bread = very squishy/spongy (when done right, canned stuff not so much). i'm homesick :-(

chicago kevin, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:41 (seventeen years ago)

69, Saturday, 20 October 2007 23:45 (seventeen years ago)
