one month passes...

I didn't vote, but Mogwai is right. I've been thinking about them of late (having gotten their album), and it occurred to me that Teeth Of Lions Rule The Divine (Mogwai remix) may well be the best thing they've ever been involved with. Such a massy, expansive, oppressive audioscape, it actually sounds 3-dimensional, a futuristic warzone rather than a narrative. One of the most convincingly dark pieces of music I've ever heard, with some of the most breathtaking sounds I've heard on disc. The use of electronic bleeps throughout (but especially towards the end) is simply stunning. I've had this thing for over three years now, and it still sounds great every time I stick it on.

The entire remix album is good, though, with an excellent and mournful Broadrick treatment, a terrifying Sunn 0))) denouement and a nicely tidied-up Coda Maestoso thanks to those discerning folks from Autechre. The Haswell is more of a state of noise than a piece, although an effective one. Jim O'Rourke kinda tests my patience a little.
