bell_labs, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 05:53 (seventeen years ago)

this question probably does not apply to the west coasters. though they'd all just answer "extreme sports" i assume

bell_labs, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 05:57 (seventeen years ago)

I am v v sick

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 06:16 (seventeen years ago)

jergïns, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 06:23 (seventeen years ago)

i had a three day weekend and slept about 15 hours a day the whole time, cos i had a cold. it was glorious. but now i have to drive all over the northeast seeing various family members in uncomfortable situations pretty much every weekend for the next two months! my boozey friend will help me through!

bell_labs, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 06:29 (seventeen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 06:31 (seventeen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 06:58 (seventeen years ago)

i think i have some sort of year round alcoholism. i think i've had at least one drink a night for the past few weeks.

jaxon, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 07:58 (seventeen years ago)

at least

jaxon, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 07:58 (seventeen years ago)

drinking way too much, usually at home. it's never too much to give me a hangover the next day, but i'm thinking it was probably healthier back when i was younger getting bombed 2 nights of the week and off for 5. a six pack a night for past 2-3 months gets expensive. the worst part is nights i'm not drinking i have a beer or two to get to sleep. :(

sanskrit, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 13:15 (seventeen years ago)

also, seasonal malaise. i've been working on that by crossing the street to stand in a shaft of sunlight during morning and pre lunch cigarette.

sanskrit, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 13:16 (seventeen years ago)

BLEH

bell_labs, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 16:44 (seventeen years ago)

lol @ jaxon thinking one drink+ per evening is alcoholism

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

isn't that "european"?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

I would agree with sanskirt re the expense of daily 1/2 doz but unless you really time it right and hit the correct bar specials which are usually on school nights anyway you (or at least me) are going to wind up spending just as much getting smashed 2 out of 7

as for me I've never been able to not binge and I'm beginning to think I should just start trying to avoid bars altogether and only partake in the hol at home or at nice restaurants where I can maintain some awarene$$$$

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

there is no "seasonal diurnal cycle all gone to shit" but that is probably 1/2 the daytime becoming short as balls and 1/2 4x10 working hours in windowless bunker

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

i usually get all wintry gloomyface disordered, but have been trying to offset general lack of sunlight with earlier rising and regular exercise, which seems to help. once i can get through that, though, i will be happily rewarded with springtime horndoggy disorder.

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:26 (seventeen years ago)

i get no excersize in the winter, and i used to get tons because of skiing. now i just can't afford to do any fun winter sports, which just makes me want to curl up in fetal position around a bottle of whiskey for the next couple months.

bell_labs, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:30 (seventeen years ago)

4x10 working hours in windowless bunker

-- El Tomboto

my last office was like this, that suuuucks

sleep, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

does it count as seasonal alcoholism if it's the same level of drinking as the rest of the year, just with less other people around?

John Justen, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

mn winter is sort of like 30 days of night except i'm the vampire and booze is the townspeople.

John Justen, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

mixing metaphors dude

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

that wasn't a metaphor, that was a simile
TRY SOME LIBERAL ARTS ONCE IN A WHILE

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:48 (seventeen years ago)

No one ever talks about "mixing similes", mister.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

simile is a subset of metaphor, yo

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

wtf I am some old man complaining at kids from my porch? "mister?" "yo?"

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

sorry to create such turmoil, does it make things easier if i just say "in the winter i spend a lot of time in the dark drinking alone"?

somehow it sounds better the other way.

John Justen, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 18:02 (seventeen years ago)

it did, I don't know why jon had an issue with that, I thought it was a pretty excellent post myself

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago)

simile is a subset of metaphor, yo

really?

sleep, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 18:05 (seventeen years ago)

I think that may be wrong but you could refer to many similar constructs as "metaphorical"?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 18:07 (seventeen years ago)

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

ian, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

sanskrit, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

This is my first Christmas single since 04 (I think I got booty then tho)?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

jergïns, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 01:17 (seventeen years ago)

i think i voted "i love the holidays" because honestly fuck u whiners, who hates good food and getting presents also loving the holidays not mutually exclusive with being drunk all the time in fact often the two go hand in hand

max, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 01:19 (seventeen years ago)

I might have been the other, I can't remember. But it's perfectly compatible with the drinking hobby I'm cultivating.

Laurel, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 01:21 (seventeen years ago)

◉ fucking cat suddenly decides the damn apartment is too cold and that i'm her personal heating pad. get off my hands, i'm trying to type. get off my lap, i'm trying to eat dinner. get off my chest, i'm trying to sleep. what am i, an egg that's about to hatch? get off, you fat lard, you weigh 20 lbs!!

jergïns, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

i actually totally love winter i just just wish that it lasted for only the month before and month after christmas, i.e. the day after thanksgiving-jan. 25th4

max, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

i think i need to invite myself over to your houses because god it's gotta be better than mine

jergïns, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:05 (seventeen years ago)

to be fair i dont like LOOOVEEE the holidays i just like my dad's cooking and getting time off from work/school

max, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:05 (seventeen years ago)

also i should point out that my relatives are annoying and crazy but in a way that is vaguely endearing and plus i was never directly emotionally abused by any of them so it doesnt make me want to die

max, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:06 (seventeen years ago)

plus being depressed and feeling sorry for yourself around the holidays is like the most BORING and OBVIOUS time to do so!!!

max, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:08 (seventeen years ago)

all christmas carols can eat shit. except for "last christmas" by wham!

bell_labs, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:36 (seventeen years ago)

happy xmas (war is over)

max, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:38 (seventeen years ago)

My family are awesome, you should all come visit for Christmas. Everyone is so glad to be together that we are hilarious and warm and we eat food and give each other big things and little things and throw the wrapping in the fireplace and make gravy and don't watch any TV. Sometimes someone plays piano and we sing archaic English carols like "The Holly and the Ivy" in 3-part harmonies. Seriously, there's probably not even any alcohol involved and it's disgustingly wonderful.

The outside is cold and maybe we go skiing but the house is warm and bright and decorated and everyone gathers in the public rooms with cups of coffee b/c it's chilly upstairs, and my parents say something about how deeply content they are to have their children together and we all get choked up. I'm not kidding, it's like the Christmas idyll.

Laurel, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:43 (seventeen years ago)

Pro: actually since I was last home my parents got a hot tub, so now there is scurrying outside into the hot water in the cold air.

Con: I thought I'd be taking someone home this year but it seems not to be, so that is my one sadness.

Laurel, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:45 (seventeen years ago)

my dad actually said not to visit on christmas day - too crowded, and we only get 2 hours, so we'll go the weekend before, which is one weekend in december we can visit more than 2 hours at a time. it seems reasonable i guess. he's a reasonable guy and not overly sentimental. i'm really the same - not sentimentally attached to the idea of the holidays - might as well fuck it all. but not my mom. so i have to be wherever they want me, whenever they decide, because their lives are much shittier than mine right now and i need to be there. i love my family too but it's not the best of situations and no amoumt of valium pinched from my mom will help make this any less fucked.

bell_labs, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:57 (seventeen years ago)

im really sorry linz--i hope im not making anyone who is having a genuinely shitty holiday feel bad w/ my semi-ironic enthusiasm

max, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 05:01 (seventeen years ago)

Mine isn't ironic enough, should not be allowed on this thread. But anyone who wants to fly to Michigan can come home w/ me.

Laurel, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 05:03 (seventeen years ago)

o RLY

deeznuts, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 05:06 (seventeen years ago)

Let me rephrase: people I like.

Laurel, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 05:11 (seventeen years ago)

mine is SEMI-ironic which is my way of indicating that i can no longer tell the difference between irony and authenticity w/r/t to my own emotions anymroe

max, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 05:31 (seventeen years ago)

i seem to remember the nb secret drinkers thread last year holidays was particularly pathetic.
