What is the British version of Massachusetts? I am very interested in what they have to say about class and the Boston accent!

o jeez u guys only those from vt nh and maine can really wield the phrase w/the proper contempt and resignation.

clearing a few more things up: massholes are actually the best drivers, at least as far as skill, manners may be another thing; quincy is more like the north jersey of boston, southie is the bronx; as far as the core of massholes, hmmm generally this term is used to describe those who come up from mass to the northern ne states and behave poorly - so the relatively wealthy and moblie, aka the people w/o the accents from eastern mass.

the accent is more or less a working class thing these days. used to be there were variations for everyone.

does that make the north end brooklyn?

the north end is little italy - its really to small to be its own borough

roxbury/dorchester is brooklyn - cambridge is kinda western brooklyn these days

i grew up on the nh border and when i was a kid we could dial into salem and plaistow and i think as far as nashua without having to dial 603 and get charged for long distance.

when i moved neighborhoods in RI in the mid-nineties, one of our AOL access numbers became in-state long distance somehow. thousand dollar phone bills ensued. NOT COOL.

I've lived on this block for a year and so far I haven't really figured out what the deal is with that house - I've met a middle-aged Asian woman who lives there, but I think it's a duplex.
