Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:21 (seventeen years ago)

my dad talks like this. he grew up in quincy, which is kinda the bronx of boston (?)

my piano teacher has the old timey boston accent that sounds almost british

bell_labs, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:32 (seventeen years ago)

massholes = the worst drivers

bell_labs, Monday, 26 November 2007 05:33 (seventeen years ago)

what classes and sections of MA comprise the true core of the Masshole population?

Dr Morbius, Monday, 26 November 2007 14:23 (seventeen years ago)

What is the British version of Massachusetts? I am very interested in what they have to say about class and the Boston accent!

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 14:40 (seventeen years ago)

o jeez u guys only those from vt nh and maine can really wield the phrase w/the proper contempt and resignation.

clearing a few more things up: massholes are actually the best drivers, at least as far as skill, manners may be another thing; quincy is more like the north jersey of boston, southie is the bronx; as far as the core of massholes, hmmm generally this term is used to describe those who come up from mass to the northern ne states and behave poorly - so the relatively wealthy and moblie, aka the people w/o the accents from eastern mass.

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

the accent is more or less a working class thing these days. used to be there were variations for everyone.

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 14:52 (seventeen years ago)

does that make the north end brooklyn?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 14:52 (seventeen years ago)

u guys know what a massachusetts road block is?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 14:53 (seventeen years ago)

the north end is little italy - its really to small to be its own borough

roxbury/dorchester is brooklyn - cambridge is kinda western brooklyn these days

i cant figure out what charlestown is

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 14:59 (seventeen years ago)

cambridge = the village
sville = wburg

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 15:15 (seventeen years ago)

Affleck's Dorchester-set Gone Baby Gone = Masshole Oscar contender? Does seem like Old Brooklyn w/ 10a.m. bar crowd.

haha, an old PkSlope neighbor of mine moved TO Jamaica Plain -- then back to Astoria.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 26 November 2007 15:16 (seventeen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 16:36 (seventeen years ago)

utica can be kind of nice, jon

remy bean, Monday, 26 November 2007 16:36 (seventeen years ago)

CA is more heterogeneous (/clotted) douchiness than NJ, which trends toward the northern end of the state

remy bean, Monday, 26 November 2007 16:37 (seventeen years ago)

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

My dad is from Boston. His accent comes out whenever he talks to relatives on the phone.

I haven't been to Massachusetts since August 1992.

The National Bird of Belize is the Keel-Billed Toucan.

latebloomer, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:06 (seventeen years ago)

my girlfriend was born in providence and moved to seekonk when she was 12. my dad grew up in little compton, where my grandparents live. my uncle lives in warren. i <3 RI!

max, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:07 (seventeen years ago)

I used to know someone with SSN only 1 or 2 digits different from mine! We were both born in NJ but then moved to MI and eventually worked in same job place in 1996 or so. Weird.

Laurel, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:09 (seventeen years ago)

wait, max have we talked about LC? My folks live there.

jhøshea: do u know @NN@ B0R3LL1?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:12 (seventeen years ago)

Chelmsford, Lowell, Tewksbury, Wilmington, Burlington, Bedford,

chums-fid, lowell, tooks-bree, wilmingon, burlington, bed-fid.

scituate- sea erosion = beachfront homes washing into the brine.

508= piece of crap area code. i went from 617 to 508 to 978 from sixth grade to my junior year of highschool. i don't even know my parents phone number anymore because they have another goddamn area code.

walpole- why didn't they change the name of the town to cedar junction? because whenever anyone ever says "i used to live in walpole" i automatically think "convicted felon".

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

i dont think so - newton is pretty lol hueg xp

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

The City of Newton in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, is an important residential suburb of Boston, which abuts it on the east. According to the 2000 census, the population of Newton was 83,829, making it the tenth largest city in the state.

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:17 (seventeen years ago)

I was hoping u were jew pals

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:18 (seventeen years ago)

yah that wouldve been fun

jhøshea, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:18 (seventeen years ago)

Even though I lived in LC, RI you used to be able to dial into parts of 617/508 area code without 1-NPA! It was awesome. Also, for a while you could just dial the last 4 digits of my exchange to connect!

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

wtf 774 area code?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

whenever anyone ever says "i used to live in walpole" i automatically think "convicted felon".

i used to go to a christmas party at the wardens' cottage every year ^

remy bean, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

cahnged that name!?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

i grew up on the nh border and when i was a kid we could dial into salem and plaistow and i think as far as nashua without having to dial 603 and get charged for long distance.

chicago kevin, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:23 (seventeen years ago)

when i moved neighborhoods in RI in the mid-nineties, one of our AOL access numbers became in-state long distance somehow. thousand dollar phone bills ensued. NOT COOL.

ian, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

That happened to me too, Ian!

Also some parts of Fall River, MA were long distance so my war dialing caused this.

Also loved all the boy geniuses who would *69 me.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 26 November 2007 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

war dialing?

max, Monday, 26 November 2007 19:48 (seventeen years ago)

Crazy guy's house is next to that little park on the corner of Amory and Boylston.

I've lived on this block for a year and so far I haven't really figured out what the deal is with that house - I've met a middle-aged Asian woman who lives there, but I think it's a duplex. Although I once saw her shoveling snow in a pair of Devo-style yellow coveralls, I don't think she's on some Marian Zazeela life-auteur shit (the video monitors are on 24/7/365, and right now there's a bunch of trash art nailed to the fence as well) - the crazy guy's probably her neighbor or son or something.

elmo argonaut, Monday, 26 November 2007 20:12 (seventeen years ago)

xp - I used to live on Moraine/Centre for awhile before this (rip Triple D's). Had a few friends on Forbes 2003-2005ish.

Behan fell off pretty bad once they sold the place and Bernie got fired. I keep trying to drag people to the Drinking Fountain, but I think I run w/the wrong crowd (ie. not enough problem gamblers and guys named "Lucky the Leprechaun").
