i usually will only neti when i feel congested, but as long as the neti does the trick and gets the clogs out, does the purity of the water matter?

neti only works for like two seconds then I'm congested again.

i've had terrible congestion for like 6 months. i have semi-frequent nosebleeds, is this a concern with neti??

buzza--it's not a concern with neti, it's a concern WITHOUT neti. nosebleeds are often caused by dry/hot air, you may want to neti when you rise and neti before you go to sleep. and get a humidifier maybe?

I absolutely cannot tolerate water getting up my nose (to the extent that I wear LOLnoseplug when swimming)-- I imaging neti-ing is a similar (horrendous) sensation? If so no way in hell am I getting up in that bitch.

Crap, I always knew I needed to look into shit cuz my nasal passage perpetually feels congested or narrow or whatever, but damn I had no idea. I just just tried this for the first time (just pouring the saline solution through didn't do a whole lot so I just stuck my nose in a cup of the stuff and snorted, which seemed to work), and it's like seeing a new color. I've never been able to breathe through my nose like this. That I can recall. Awesome.

The most effective methods ensure that the liquid enters through one nostril and then either runs out of the other nostril or goes through the nasal cavity to the back of the throat from where it may be spat out. The necessary pressure comes from gravity, from squeezing a plastic bottle or a syringe, or from an electrical pump.[3]

Wasn't really flowing using the bow-tilt-pour method. I think I may have an extra narrow nasal passage.

i remember these threads from years ago, but i got real sick in september, knocked out for three days and terrible sinus pressure and headaches from it. couldn't find a pot at duane reade so i got the neti bottle w/ salt packets where you slightly squeeze for pressure (rather than gravity).

cleaned me out good, headache went away in minutes.

i did this earlier but headache didn't totally go away. maybe i needed to do it longer?

Make sure it's warm enough. Add 1/2 as much baking soda as you do salt to buffer the solution and cut through/clear out more mucus. Add the same amount of xylitol crystals as baking soda for extra bacteria death. Run the full amount right to left and left to right.

you can do it twice per nostril if you're not feeling fully better.
my issue has always been that i get water in my ear canal and that sucks. Talked to a doctor about it and they reminded me I had tubes put in as an infant so it's a straight shot from sinuses to ears.
