i was over at the santa monica wednesday farmer's market this morning, and it was good. thinking of cooking up some sort of sausage thing with fresh fennel, yellow & plum tomatoes, onions, etc. salad? winter of soups? sandwiches? hmm.

i got:

-fennel
-tomatoes (yellow & plum)
-rapini
-thyme
-yellow onions
-rhubarb pie
-sunflower seed baguette
-dried pluots

would have bought more but had to carry it all home on the bus.

you don't even have a good bagel in LA

or a gawker blog

jaxon, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 22:46 (seventeen years ago)

jealous

reading river cottage meat book has made it near impossible to go to butcher or grocer...cant wait for return of farmers market to feel good about buying meat

bb, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 22:47 (seventeen years ago)

good job! i miss that place

carne asada, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 22:48 (seventeen years ago)

you don't even have a good bagel in LA

bagel broker on beverly and orange grove, dude. and the bagels at my not-very-jewish local coffee place are a revelation, although they sell out of them very early in the day.

or a gawker blog

defamer! and gridskipper l.a.! and perez isn't part of the gawker empire, but bless his queeny little gossiping heart anyway.

get bent, Thursday, 10 January 2008 00:34 (seventeen years ago)

but yeah i don't get so sad over bagels because any random product from la brea bakery = wau breadgasm

get bent, Thursday, 10 January 2008 00:41 (seventeen years ago)

haha. sorry jody, not really directed at you at all. that was quotes from IM chatz fight between chacki and jon

jaxon, Thursday, 10 January 2008 02:56 (seventeen years ago)

"fight"

jaxon, Thursday, 10 January 2008 02:56 (seventeen years ago)

yes. La Brea Bakery is great. we get their stuff here at wholefoods. what's the restaurant next door to it? used to be charlie chaplain's office or something? i've been there twice i think. brunch was pretty epic.

jaxon, Thursday, 10 January 2008 02:57 (seventeen years ago)

campanile?

get bent, Thursday, 10 January 2008 06:31 (seventeen years ago)

ARAGORN SON OF ARATHORN (Z S), Sunday, 2 August 2009 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

artichokes are some sublime vegetables imo

mark cl, Sunday, 2 August 2009 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

but this isn't the season anymore tho, they're for springtime

mark cl, Sunday, 2 August 2009 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i guess. anyway i went nutz this morning and got:

tomatoes
zucchini
corn
green beans
fresh black beans
cantaloupe
peaches
blueberries
bell peppers
jalapeños
basil

i've never made fresh blk beans before, and when i googled the two sites that talked about cooking them both mentioned my farmers' market as if it's the only place that has them. i'm a dumbhead for forgetting cilantro but they'll be fine w/o it.

blobfish russian (harbl), Sunday, 2 August 2009 19:36 (fifteen years ago)

fresh black beans!!!! woah i have never heard of this! sorry baout your cilantro though.

i need to go to the farmer's market but my gym and the market close at the same time and there's only time for one i think? :(

tehresa, Sunday, 2 August 2009 19:46 (fifteen years ago)

grapes
white nectarines
pluots
corn
broccoli
lettuce
heirloom tomatoes
apples (early!)
kale

velko, Sunday, 2 August 2009 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

I wish I had a farmers market to go to, but in the meantime I'm getting tomatoes, basil and thyme from my own garden, and blueberries, a few blackberries, yellow squash, cucumbers, jalapeno and cayenne peppers, garlic, cantaloupes and okra from my parents'. Our raspberry plant is setting its fall blooms -- that'll be a tasty 30 or so berries.

Beanbag the Gardener (WmC), Sunday, 2 August 2009 20:16 (fifteen years ago)

two months pass...

the crab/fish guy has a weekly trivia thing where you can win a FREE pound of salmon. but i got the question wrong today.

steamed hams (harbl), Sunday, 4 October 2009 13:31 (fifteen years ago)

what was the question

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 October 2009 13:33 (fifteen years ago)

it was how many states does the appalachian trail go through. the answer is 14 and i guessed 12 because i was trying to picture it on a map and missed WV and VT.

steamed hams (harbl), Sunday, 4 October 2009 13:36 (fifteen years ago)

i am so STUPID!!!!! i'll get it next time. this is the first time i've guessed. i didn't realize what the prize was.

steamed hams (harbl), Sunday, 4 October 2009 13:38 (fifteen years ago)

you're not stupid--WV hardly deserves to be a state and VT is tiny

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 October 2009 13:39 (fifteen years ago)

it barely goes into WV at all so you can see why i was confused

steamed hams (harbl), Sunday, 4 October 2009 13:45 (fifteen years ago)

wv is an awesome state better watch it mr que!

tehresa, Sunday, 4 October 2009 15:35 (fifteen years ago)

what's gonna happen, you gonna send a telegram to yr brethren in WV and they're gonna saddle up and head to DC armed with moonshine and pitchforks?

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 October 2009 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

i might sb u

OR WORSE

tehresa, Sunday, 4 October 2009 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

que, iirc, you don't even live in a real state

steamed hams (harbl), Sunday, 4 October 2009 15:52 (fifteen years ago)

"round up the kinfolk, Maw Maw, we got ourselves a DC agitator. Fetch my squirrel gun!"

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 October 2009 15:53 (fifteen years ago)

nothing is real iirc

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 October 2009 15:54 (fifteen years ago)

your infinity in you is the reality in you

but your infinity doesn't reach very far iirc

tehresa, Sunday, 4 October 2009 15:56 (fifteen years ago)

driving through WV to get to my college felt like driving through infinity iirc. no offense to any WVers--i'm sure the in breeding regulations are part of what makes WV such an attractive place to live

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 October 2009 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

did u go to college in ohio

steamed hams (harbl), Sunday, 4 October 2009 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

when i was a kid driving through wv seemed like infinity but when i drove through going to and from college, i really loved it. drive of calm, peaceful reflection. iirc.

tehresa, Sunday, 4 October 2009 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

went to college in mo, imho. yeah wv is calm but always lots of construction. i preferred ky,

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 October 2009 16:07 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i drove through it 5 times. it seems like a good state.

steamed hams (harbl), Sunday, 4 October 2009 16:07 (fifteen years ago)

yes let's return to ky gas pumps

que doesn't want to talk about it right now

steamed hams (harbl), Sunday, 4 October 2009 16:32 (fifteen years ago)

anyway i got two kinds of squash today, and some carrots

steamed hams (harbl), Sunday, 4 October 2009 16:33 (fifteen years ago)

butt sound insanity (gbx), Sunday, 4 October 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago)

que doesn't want to talk about it right now

no--i am eager to hear your thoughts on KY gas pumps and why they are weird

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 October 2009 16:36 (fifteen years ago)

back to working weekends means my farmer's market hauls will be rare u_u

what kind of squash?

tehresa, Sunday, 4 October 2009 16:36 (fifteen years ago)

2 acorn squashes and 2 butternut squashes

steamed hams (harbl), Sunday, 4 October 2009 16:37 (fifteen years ago)

Best thing we got at a farmers market this year was three moonflowers for $5 -- they've been busting out blooms every night for the last month.

Alex Quebec (WmC), Sunday, 4 October 2009 16:38 (fifteen years ago)

tehresa, Sunday, 18 October 2009 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

My housemate grew basil in her front yard veggie patch and it smelled so good.

Trip Maker, Sunday, 18 October 2009 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

am puzzled by "ikea basil"

quincie, Sunday, 18 October 2009 19:16 (fifteen years ago)

harbl, Sunday, 25 October 2009 14:09 (fifteen years ago)

six months pass...

still not getting the free lobster trivia question: name 7 ppl who have pitched perfect games (other than the guy who did it a couple weeks ago)

harbl, Sunday, 23 May 2010 12:48 (fourteen years ago)

i worked on my friends' organic vegetable farm today! planted broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kolrabi. laid huge tracts of bedcovering, hauled things. hard work but fun. came home with a lot of lettuce and assorted greens picked yesterday morning - they'd sold a bunch of it at market that day but still had more. yaay :) so tired

planes/octaves/dimensions of existence (rrrobyn), Monday, 24 May 2010 04:15 (fourteen years ago)

Amazing cherries at $1/lb!
onions, cilantro for 33c, potatoes, lemons, cucumber and butternut squash starters for the garden...
Sometimes it pays to go late when they're starting to pack up.

quincie, Sunday, 3 November 2013 16:51 (eleven years ago)

kale
apples
carrots
parsnips
potatoes
sweet potatoes
kabocha

to be fair the potatoes, sweet potatoes, and bell peppers were from a guy who lets you fill a small plastic bag with whatever for $5 so i didn't get too many of those

single white hairball (harbl), Sunday, 3 November 2013 17:48 (eleven years ago)

was this from the place under the bridge??

乒乓, Sunday, 3 November 2013 17:59 (eleven years ago)
