Ian c=====8 (orion), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i was a sega master system dude. hacked my genesis to play japanese games. woot1 but i was out like a light after that... still play PC games now and then... wrote a couple.... but damn, it's hard to find time these days.

when i retire, i'm gonna play videogames like a beast. can't wait!

Sega was cool...FRESH GRFX. But NINTENDO had better games.

IVE BEEN ON AN NES KICK THO. I HAVE A DREAMCAST. NOT SURE IF IT WORKS. DONT HAVE POWER CHORDS OR CONTROLLERS.

HOT.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

OK I JUST READ ABOUT THE DUNE 2000 GAME...IT DOESNT SOUND THAT HOT.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

dosbox!

12 5+1/4 disks bitch! man, i played most of the sierra games and many of the early lucasfilm games. lot's of bbs freeware action too. lot's of arcade stylez on apple iic too. 2nd or 3rd grade + zork = crzy. radioshack/tandy cassette tape computer action on the television. amiga nonsense. woot! i think the raddest was downloading some game from a bbs and having no clue how to play and never really figuring out all the nuiances. "holy shit! the ~ key jumps! you can jump! fucker! i've been playing this shit with no jump key! jump keys are for toads! this game's too easy now. screw this. i'm going back to midnight madness."

I want to get a top loading NES. Mine is all dusty ;(

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Friday, 17 September 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

nes had some special games. contra. metroid. excitebike.

blastermaster? the 2d mario games were pretty special in a way that the 3d ones fail to hit on.

megaman.

i used to like looking at the nintendo handbooks just to bask in the glory of the map spreads.

msp (msp), Friday, 17 September 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i stayed up all night to finishe castlevania 2, simon's quest and my eyes felt like they were on fire.

that was in the late 80s or whenever.

the summer after college (97?) I came home and spent most of the summer playing the Legend of Zelda, but could never finish it. Then I got a playstation and could never finish Tomb Raider.

Why are 10 year old boys smarter then me?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 17 September 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

My NES always wimps out and freezes, erasing my Zelda saves :(

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Friday, 17 September 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I lost a Zelda 3 save mysteriously and I am mad.

Classic: loading up an old game and finding a savegame from pre 1990

Free the Bee (ex machina), Friday, 17 September 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish i had all my old dos games :(

Free the Bee (ex machina), Friday, 17 September 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish i had a disk drive to play my dos games. (if i could find them in my parent's junk.)

or more importantly, i suppose i'd need some sort of emulator and/or way to slow my computer down. i can only imagine how fast some of those games would run now.

10 year old boys ARE geniuses. what's the downfall of that 10 year old? girls? sniffing/tasting garage chemicals out of boredom/on a dare? toilet swirl repression? a lack of jetpacks + an abundance of cynicism?

can you mod it so that it can accept CD-Rs? what's the best place to go to get it modded?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 19 September 2004 08:48 (twenty years ago)

(sorry if i seem sort of naive about that whole thing.)

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 19 September 2004 08:54 (twenty years ago)

my uncle does this for people all the time
and i dont think you can cdr it. the program is called avalaunche and it plays the games right off of the hard drive.

brock (brock), Sunday, 19 September 2004 09:28 (twenty years ago)

no, the cd-r problem is dependent on which dvd-rom drive is in your xbox. some read cd-r's, some don't.

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 19 September 2004 19:55 (twenty years ago)

you could put a new dvd-rom drive in there if you wanted to.

defending the indefensible?::: i got much love for perfect dark and goldeneye on n64

amon (eman), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

OK, Goldeneye was a really fun game to play with a bunch of people in four player multiplayer mode. The pleasure of picking off friends one by one with a silenced PP7 was undeniable. Not enough to redeem the entire console, but totally fun if you made the mistake of buying the N64.

goldeneye is soooooooooooooooo classic. i used to get my ass whupped in that regularly. perfect dark infuriated me because mutliplayer was so goddamn bogged by slowdown. you could barely move with more thn two players. it was just too ambitious for a cartridge-based game.

ign's top 100 NES games
some things I didn't see were

lots of sequels:
Ducktales 2
Chip N' Dale 2
R.C. Pro-AM 2
Startropics 2 (it was mentioned in the Startropics 1 review though)
Bubble Bobble 2
TMNT 3
Adventure Island games
...

also
SUPER VOLLEY BALL !!!
MARBLE MADNESS !!!
Paperboy 1 & 2 !!!
Flintstones 1 & 2 (haven't played #2 but I assume it's good)
Darkwing Duck (havent played but I'll assume its good because all those disney games were good)
Bucky O'Hare (haven't played but dude mentioned it and it looks good)
Tiny Toon Adventures 1 & 2 (played some of it)
3-D World Runner (haven't played all the way through)
Krusty's Funhouse (played most of it)
Adventures in the Magic Kingdom
The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle (haven't played all the way through)
North and South
Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road (maybe the NES version sucked? I only played the arcade version)
Gun Smoke (haven't played all the way through)

also these were fun (but I wouldn't expect them on the list):
Guerrilla War (too easy)
Captain Skyhawk (too easy)
Rampage (well I had fun even if I never got anywhere)

I've been working on my awesome ILG IGN Top 50-100 NES games poll for the past 20 minutes, while you posted that

Out of all of those, where the fuck was marble madness??? Should have been top 10

AND Paperboy AND Super Volleyball should have been top 30-40 or so.

hatchet, axe and saw supervisor (CaptainLorax), Saturday, 17 October 2009 02:35 (fifteen years ago)

What is North and South? Is that based off of the Swaze made-for-tv drama? (oh please oh please oh)

I got RIPPED in 4 weeks (Z S), Saturday, 17 October 2009 02:37 (fifteen years ago)

North and South is one of those games that you can pick up and play with a friend like marble madness and super dodge ball. It's a quick civil war game. The wiki says that it's an offshoot of the Belgian cartoon Les Tuniques Bleues.

BTW I did play through Duck Tales 2 at some point when I had Nesticle emulator. It was almost or just as fun as the first one.
Games like 3-D world runner I only played on the emulator but I imagine that would have been a real fun game to have back in the old days. Krusty's funhouse was a pretty rad puzzle platformer game. That's all I have to say about NES games for now.

hatchet, axe and saw supervisor (CaptainLorax), Saturday, 17 October 2009 02:58 (fifteen years ago)

Get a Powerpak, motherfuckers

Mr. Snrub, Saturday, 17 October 2009 23:42 (fifteen years ago)

With a flash multicart like the PowerPak, NES users no longer need to switch cartridges between games. As an owner of over 250 NES games, I personally have been looking for a product like this for a long time.
