Where has it gone, and why do the $7-12 ones fall apart after ten uses???

Do elves sell the durable ones out of a secret location in Brownsville?

Dr Morbius, Friday, 1 February 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

i just liek to hear them say" Umbrella ,umbrella, umbrella" over and over again

carne asada, Friday, 1 February 2008 15:58 (seventeen years ago)

my awesome umbrella got destroyed by the wind on wednesday morning.
RIP little guy

bell_labs, Friday, 1 February 2008 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

i bought a $1 umbrella at a park slope bodega and it lasted probably 2 years and 20-some uses. good value. the $10 sidewalk ones they drag out whenever it starts raining are shit.

i'm still bummed about leaving my double-layered london fog brolly in the back of a taxi last month. boo.

tipsy mothra, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:20 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sure said bodega has been displaced by a pet boutique

Dr Morbius, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

one of my favorite things abt new york is how as soon as it starts raining people appear selling umbrellas - NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL MATERIALISM PERFECTED!

jhøshea, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:25 (seventeen years ago)

btw morbs ive bought prob 5 $3 umbrellas in the past year - i mean they try to tell you theyre $5 but you can def get buy for $3

jhøshea, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:26 (seventeen years ago)

it's only a matter of time before i lose an eye to a $3 nyc umbrella ;_;

mookieproof, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:36 (seventeen years ago)

especially if you walk into mine, with the bare spokes sticking out.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:37 (seventeen years ago)

dude gave me a free one once

carne asada, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:38 (seventeen years ago)

i just pick up new ones from bars all the time...course that doesnt work so well if its midday. chinatown in the rain is a deathtrap for yr eyes

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

Whatever, Psmith.

Laurel, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

i just bought one for $3 at my deli

sleep, Friday, 1 February 2008 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

bb, what do u mean about chinatown

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)

on average the population of chinatown is just a touch shorter than the majority of the population...given the tight nature of the sidewalks and the number of idiot tourists who can't walk decently even in the sunshine, it can get dangerous with the pokey ends of umbrellas

i noticed this the 1st time i was in chinatown...it rained and it was dangerous

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:06 (seventeen years ago)

the problem with purse-sized umbrellas is that they do not have a big enough radius to provide adequate windy rain protection. also they cost like $15 and the wind still fucks em up. perhaps i invest in one of those giant bubble ones.

tehresa, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:39 (seventeen years ago)

a the small bubble ones are ok and favored by the gays

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 18:49 (seventeen years ago)

Dr Morbius, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:30 (seventeen years ago)

Gays and goils.

Laurel, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:34 (seventeen years ago)

Last winter I had the best giant radius, wind proof, sexy rubber handle $30 umbrella. I went to a fancy restaurant and was forced to leave it in the front. When I came back to get it, it was gone. I told the host and he gave me another one someone had left behind before. It was bright purple and pink and so ugly i'd rather get wet than carry it.

jaxon, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

guys it's only water

mookieproof, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

near-freezing water

sexyDancer, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

it takes some pretty heavy rain to make me use an umbrella

sleep, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

I will carry a bubble umbrella at the slightest provocation but otherwise, meh.

Laurel, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

I have having to dodge umbrellas. GET A FUCKING RAINCOAT pUSSIES

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

people with golf umbrellas in the city are really obnoxious

bell_labs, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:11 (seventeen years ago)

jaxon the proper response wouldve been: i dont want this pink umbrella i want to be compensated for my $50 dollar umbrella

jhøshea, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:12 (seventeen years ago)

tru!

ppl using umbrellas in nyc durring light snow flurries need to stay in the subburbs.

i'd use an umbrella in rain like today's, but generally i try to avoid it..most people can't be trusted to walk about responsibly with the things...including me

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

I'm beginning to shove umbrellas

jhøshea, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

In 2002 Dave released his first solo album entitled Faces & Names on Ultimatum Music. He also contributed guest vocals on the song "Chillout Tent" in The Hold Steady's 2006 release, Boys and Girls in America.
Pirner now resides in the post-Katrina Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans where he is part of a music collective doing recording and production work.
Radio host Eddie Trunk said in an episode of Vh1 Classic turntables that Dave was a songwriter he marveled.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:30 (seventeen years ago)

a raincoat does not keep blowing rain outta yr face, grumpus.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)

neither does an umbrella

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:39 (seventeen years ago)

Dr Morbius, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:34 (seventeen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

Laurel, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

stay indoors, cower

sexyDancer, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:15 (seventeen years ago)

umbrellas are like automotives, people. the chance of you getting hit with one are far more dependent on the operator than the size. I know how to handle a large umbrella in the city (helps to be 6' + lanky), while I see people with their tiny fold-outs fucking other people's shit up all the time

El Tomboto, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:18 (seventeen years ago)

especially on the way in and out of the subway/metro. jesus christ.

El Tomboto, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)

umbrellas are like dicks, people. the chance of you getting hit with one are far more dependent on the operator than the size. I know how to handle a large dicks in the city (helps to be 6' + lanky), while I see people with their tiny fold-outs fucking other people's shit up all the time

jaxon, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)

Ugh, and what is up with people not lifting umbrellas to clear other umbrellas. DBAGS

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)

ppl on nyc streets being rude?

woah!

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:31 (seventeen years ago)

It's not rudeness -- I think there are actually people to whom it hasn't even occurred that same-level umbrellas cannot peacefully coexist

nabisco, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:46 (seventeen years ago)

Isn't it a law of something? That two objects cannot occupy the same point in space at the same point in time? SURPRISE!

Laurel, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:47 (seventeen years ago)

I think it's actually more that there are people to whom it hasn't occurred that other people besides them exist

El Tomboto, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:48 (seventeen years ago)

Did someone just say something?

Laurel, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:49 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry, we're in the ILX dead zone of day, and I'm bored.

Laurel, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:49 (seventeen years ago)

even my coworkers are bored today. sometimes a quiet friday is not all it's cracked up to be

El Tomboto, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:50 (seventeen years ago)

i just argued with people in my office about improv anywhere for 10 minutes

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:50 (seventeen years ago)

see i view ppl not recognizing that they are not alone in this world as rude...

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:57 (seventeen years ago)

is improv anywhere more cool or less cool than spending friday afternoon arguing about umbrellas and improv anywhere

El Tomboto, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:57 (seventeen years ago)

see i view ppl not recognizing that they are not alone in this world as rude...

amazing

El Tomboto, Friday, 1 February 2008 22:57 (seventeen years ago)

I'm getting paid.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 23:00 (seventeen years ago)

still not sure if that makes it worse or better. if somebody paid the IA folks, that would make them totally awful. us getting paid to do this because nothing else is happening is kind of sad in its own way. we should just be allowed to go home.

El Tomboto, Friday, 1 February 2008 23:02 (seventeen years ago)

oh come on, if you can't maneuver around people standing still, you're pretty low on the Darwin pole.

sexyDancer, Friday, 1 February 2008 23:07 (seventeen years ago)

oh wait, i thought I was on the Imrov thread.

sexyDancer, Friday, 1 February 2008 23:09 (seventeen years ago)

tehresa, Friday, 1 February 2008 23:10 (seventeen years ago)
