dreamhost got a lot of hate over "cpu quotas" a while back which pissed off idiots who wrote stuff that trashed databases.

Probably not what you're looking for, but if you're interested in setting up your server to your liking, with all the time and effort that entails, I've been pretty happy with Slicehost. For $20-140/mo you get a virtualized Linux server to yourself with some set amount of RAM and disk, a minimum slice of CPU time, and unlimited bandwidth (within reason).

i use hostdime but i question their security. honestly guys. it's cool to have a website somewhere, but i strongly suggest using gmail or yahoo (etc) as your billing/important address.
these companies resell like mofos and it's hard to keep up with your shit and where your shit lives. meanwhile any butthead could be breaking into your stuff. and the uptimes are better.
i know it's OT and FUD... just throwing that out there. random advice from somebody that's paid for hosting for 10+ years. m.

Important when you're broke and forget to regreg your domain
mediatemple.net works for me. it's more expensive than dreamhost, but I left dreamhost because of downtime and general reliability stuff.
