get bent, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 13:48 (sixteen years ago)

Everything in my fridge is rotten or expired or a box of knock-off Freezer Pops.

David R., Wednesday, 25 June 2008 14:28 (sixteen years ago)

I have about three bags of half-used, half-decomposing cilantro in there at about all times. Right now it's a chase to see if I'll use this packet of smoked bacon I have sitting in there before the expiration date

you would have to drink all the vitamin waters to actually get your recommended daily value...

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:36 (sixteen years ago)

yes! always with the bags of cilantro here.
anyone have a method of keeping them fresh longer?

carne asada, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:42 (sixteen years ago)

i have one right now! no way i can use it all before i leave for trip on sunday! argh!

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:43 (sixteen years ago)

I reorganized my fridge last night. I have at least 30 bottles of sauces/condiments, from two kinds of pickles, curry mayo, horse radish, and two bottles of rice vinegar. Geez!

Finefinemusic, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:45 (sixteen years ago)

xpost fyi You can freeze cilantro for use in recipes, I think you wash it, chop it and put it in ice cube trays, then put water on top to seal it in. After a few days you can throw all the cubes into a ziplock bag or something. It's not exactly the same as fresh but it's pretty decent.

Finefinemusic, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

^ this
can do the same with basil and other things!

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:48 (sixteen years ago)

i wonder if my new fridge is actually new enough that it has a frost free freezer aka a freezer that actually works
fingers freakin crossed

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

Best: wash and then chop up ALL your green onions all at once, then carefully stuff them into an empty plastic water bottle, which you can then throw in the freezer. Whenever you need a few rings, simply shake them onto your meal/recipe - they will defrost in seconds and feel fresh and easy! So good for baked potatoes and stir frys.

Finefinemusic, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:50 (sixteen years ago)

ahh that ice cube tray idea sounds like a good idea. i have tried doing the basil that you sort of coat in olive oil and freeze, but it never worked to well.

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 15:50 (sixteen years ago)

okay green onion freezer shaker is genius

ok so 4-10 bottles for everything other than C. close enough!

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

You're off by 3 to 6 times your initial "estimate".

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:20 (sixteen years ago)

Who expects to get all their vitamins from a hangover cure?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:21 (sixteen years ago)

omg try one "lol vitamin water is not actually good for you" joek, dude.

tehresa, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:39 (sixteen years ago)

you know what is a good hangover cure? this chicken fucking caesar salad sitting in front of me, that's what.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

you know what is a good hangover cure?

pho. i could really go for some. my fridge has.. vegetables and fruit (i think four kinds of greens but some are not fresh any more..), baking stuff, jar of kimchi, leftover indian food, at least six different kinds of chili paste.. moroccan salted olives.. mustard.

i just found this jar of spicy lemon pickle and i have no idea what this goes with.

daria-g, Thursday, 26 June 2008 06:30 (sixteen years ago)

they brought the fridge! it is brand new!
and half an inch taller than the cupboard it is supposed to fit under!
sighhhh
but the good thing is that it's actually just the edging of the cupboard and not the structure itself, so uh it can be sawed off or something i don't know. eesh.

at least i can make icecubes now!

rrrobyn, Thursday, 26 June 2008 15:37 (sixteen years ago)

i stopped by a farmer's market yesterday so i now have peaches and fresh cinnamon raisin bread in my fridge.

get bent, Thursday, 26 June 2008 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

too much stuff in our fridge, which is tiny (and wheezing, and landlady will not get us a new one - she said that the idea that landlords have to provide fridges for tenants is "stupid"):

brita
seltzer
iced tea (homemade, with mint)
baking soda
peanut butter
butter (kerry gold)
cheddar and parmesan cheeses
tupperware full of leftover rice
half an avocado
tupperware full of leftover pasta (zucchini/mint alfredo)
soy mayo
kewpie mayo
kalamata olives
jam (strawberry; blueberry)
cornichons
mango chutney
large bottle of rasberry lambic
half a can of chilies in adobo
several kinds of mustard
ketchup
lettuce
several vidalia onions
half of a dried up lemon
etc
etc
