that one and 'my autumn's done come' are killing me, but I'm going to have to eaze in, things like the (amazing) cover of 'whole lotta shakin' goin' on' make me lose my bearings

― Milton Parker, Saturday, 1 March 2008 00:55 (seventeen years ago)

I've been dying to pick up the Rhino Handmade thing (because it basically fills in the major remaining gap that wasn't covered by the MGM disc and the Smells Like stuff) but I keep shying away cuz of the ridiculous 40 dollar price tag. i'm sure i will break down eventually...

i love "Hey Cowboy" and "Look At That Woman" and "If It's Monday Morning" the mostest.
― ian, Saturday, 1 March 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)
i only have love and other crimes, but love it. i can't say why i haven't dug in deeper. i listened to a more silly album with ian while he was working one saturday morning when i was straight...and it was good
the primal scream/kate moss cover of "some velvet.." stinks like the meatpacking district in august, but the slowdive version is great.

Requiem For An Almost Lady isn't silly so much as theatrical and dated. I love it, though. It's a pretty bitter record, for the most part. The first song is about how he's glad he never had a gun (the implication being that he woulda shot that woman.)
