i listen to fables yesterday...some dude's vinyl rip. i think his pitch is off though, as it sounds slow/low compared to my memory or my old cassette copy..still was always one of my favorites, just never bothered buying in a dift format, so its gone unlistened-to under my couch for years

bb, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

oh right, somebody lock up the february jams

dmr, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

some dude put up four songs from my fave unspoken word rekkerd on youtube:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=uAAxZD8DbPw

so i'm listening to that. um, even though i could just go put on the rekkerd. but then i'd have to find it, blah, blah, a whole ordeal.

fallout apparently put this on cd. don't buy it. the record is still relatively cheap. i think.

scott seward, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 23:45 (seventeen years ago)

its been a few days of field recording records....
currently annea lockwood and ruth anderson sinopah
also liege and lief after hearing tam lin at dinner on sat.

bb, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 03:50 (seventeen years ago)

how is the annea lockwood?

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 03:56 (seventeen years ago)

thats whats playing now...its a 40-odd minute composition of field recordings and presents a certain sense of journey or wandering....other than the somewhat cliche "storm" sounds, im digging it...

other than the sound map of the hudson recording, i'm not too familiar with the work..but just embarked on a little google research. interesting. she teaches at vassar evidently...might just try and get in touch and have a little trip upstate. about to dig into this interview: http://www.newmusicbox.org/article.nmbx?id=2364

bb, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

oh it's not the works w/ glass album??

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 04:05 (seventeen years ago)

no, this piece is called "world rhythms" on a record phil nibblock's org put out...havent listened to ruth anderson's piece yet. don't know the record with glass..phillip glass? i'm not so interested in his work, frankly...and am just now digging into her(beyond the hudon river thing, which i love) after reading chris watson speak about her.

the upside of all the field recording work ive been into is that i have yet to find someone doing what im interested in. the downside is that most of the recordings are better than anything ive managed...time to find some money and buy some crap...

bb, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 04:16 (seventeen years ago)

haha no not philip glass, it was "instruments" made of glass!

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 04:41 (seventeen years ago)

i like the new valet record.

there's a couple tracks off that beach house record that are heartbreaking enough to shine up some whiskey right.

i got giddy over the kelley polar record after hearing the first track and then the rest has been annoying me since.

still way loving "punjab" by excepter. can't stop listening to the future pilot aka vs. cornershop song "teri mitti bani". (for the last 5 years it's been my bong hit since i've not toked since charlie was born.)

msp, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 04:52 (seventeen years ago)

i like valet a lot too, so much that i made the cover my desktop background

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 05:11 (seventeen years ago)

valet + white rainbow = power couple

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 05:11 (seventeen years ago)

xpost I love Annea. 'Glass World', 'World Rhythms' and 'Floating World' are my three favorites. Hildegard Westerkamp's 'Transformations' / 'Into India' & that new reissue of Christina Kubisch's 'Night Flights', same ball park

do you have Douglas Quin's 'Antartica'?

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 05:15 (seventeen years ago)

no. i dont think im familiar at all with him..this is a new space for me, so im just feeling a lot of it out...im interested in more soundscapes, but i like the level of composing in her works. ive slowly stepped into modern comp in the last, say 8 yrs...but slowly..

i really want to hear the glass stuff after reading the interview above...and wish there were available recodings of burning the piano.

i also like the valet record...should listen again

i need to go pick up the jed speare collection on family vinyard too.

bb, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 06:31 (seventeen years ago)

actually..i think he was used in the chris watson invisible juke box. just found it here

http://xraybarbecue.blogspot.com/

bb, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 06:36 (seventeen years ago)

good blog

for people composing with field recordings, Luc Ferrari 'Presque Rien', Wendy Carlos 'Sonic Seasonings', Annea Lockwood / Hildegard Westercamp / Christina Kubisch

for soundscapes, get Quin's 'Antartica' first ($3 used on amazon) then the others, Toshiya Tsunoda 'Extract From Field Recording Archive' series, then the 'Environments' records especially 'Intonation' & 'Tintinnuabulation' -- http://www.headheritage.co.uk/unsung/review/527

someone should start a thread

so at the end, when his gf ODs, and he eats a bunch of mushrooms and has the climactic bad trip at a party. and they call the ambulance and they strap him in a stretcher, and IIRC there's these great bits where the food on the table and the medical tools in the emergency room come to life and start bouncing around.

throughout that whole scene the last part of dazed & confused is playing. the part with the upward moving guitar solo. but it's not a folkie version, it's like a heavy metal version, bordering practically on early thrash. to my ears, it sounds like what a metallica cover of dazed & confused might sound like.

and yeah, i've been looking for it for about 6 years now and i've never found any info on it.
