i hope polvo are good, i only saw them that one time, too. i remember they played Solitary Set, prolly my favorite song off that CLTNDA. i think they opened for pavement on the CR tour but for some (dumbass) reason i skipped that show.

hmm. can't imagine I didn't go to that, maybe I did see Polvo twice. I remember seeing Apples in Stereo open for Pavement one time but I think that was later, like Brighten the Corners tour.

i never really listened to grunge bands. or even grunge-related bands. or people who were friends with grunge bands. or people that grunge bands wanted to sound like. or pre-grunge grunge pioneers. or whatever. except for the wipers. and poison idea. and husker du. and squirrel bait. and the pixies. that's as grungey as i got. the only grunge albums i ever bought were mudhoney s/t and mudhoney superfuzz and mudhoney touch me i'm sick.

i like a pearl jam song. black! that soung is awesome! i wish that song had come out when i was 16. i would have fantasized about killing myself to it. new dawn fades was my go-to song for when i was gonna kill myself when i was 16. i know, duh, how obvious.

and, wait! i own a copy of no code! i think that's the one. i've never played the whole thing. i bought it new cuz it was a dollar and it is an awesome design package. comes with all these big photo art cards. i'm a sucker for good packaging. i bought that when they were selling a bunch of copies of neil young's dead man soundtrack for 2 or 3 bucks new (cuz nobody wanted them at the time) and i didn't buy any! i coulda been rich. they go for 150-200 bucks sealed now. don't even talk to me about the stacks of dollar copies of pauls boutique at strawberries after that came out. oof. i could be a thousandare by now.

i guess i listened to the melvins way after grunge. i never really even thought of them as a grunge act. i listened to them when i was in full on stoner/doom/sabbath metal phase. them and Earth and the Thrones i never associated w/the rest.

nothing's shocking was a cool record. they could do zep riffs pretty good when they wanted to.

i hated stp when they showed up, but i really liked when they got a little bit weirder. and their stuff definitely sounds good on the radio. big bang baby is my fave. and black hole sun is still my fave soundgarden.

yeah i like first three STP actually, but much as pearl jam, the second and the third were less zeitgeisty and have therefore aged better

this might sound jerky, but i think i might have been a little too old for grunge? i spent the 80's listening to metal and hardcore and touch & go and homestead stuff, etc, etc, and the grunge stuff just seemed pretty ho hum to me. honestly, i said this before and i'm totally serious, when i first heard nevermind i thought it might be a new squirrel bait record. i got excited for a minute there.

grunge was the big thing when I was in high school, it totally threw me b/c I grew up listening to dance music, r&b and hip hop and then that was not cool at all w/everyone I hung out with. I still like nirvana and hole. stp, never listened really.. I got one of their cds from bmg and my mom opened the box & was offended by something or other & made me send it back! I was def a fan of soundgarden superunknown at the time but I don't have it any more, same for pearl jam 2nd album and jane's addiction.

still have the juliana hatfield three CD which might have been the first one I bought :)
