neu! part

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 15:32 (seventeen years ago)

Is the joke that it sounds like they're playing like a bunch of records one after another, so the title is a bastardization of "D.J.ed?"

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 15:49 (seventeen years ago)

My friend over AIM: i remember indie snobs chastizing me because "it's pronounced DEEJHED"

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 15:55 (seventeen years ago)

The Djed symbol is a pillar-like ancient Egyptian symbol representing stability. It has been interpreted as the backbone of the Egyptian god Osiris, especially in the form Banebdjedet (the ba of the lord of the Djedet). Djedu is the Egyptian name for Busiris, a centre of the cult of Osiris. During the Renewal Festival, the djed would be ceremonially raised as a phallic symbol symbolising the "potency and duration of the pharaoh's rule".[1] It has been compared to the Sumerian concept of temen. The hieroglyph for "djed" may have given rise to the letter Samekh.

lol at post rockers loving big phallic symbol

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

Cos I never read about bands I always assumed this was like "D.J.ed". Anyway, torn between Neu! and Steve Reich, tho I still love the bit where they make you think your stereo's fucked.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 21:51 (seventeen years ago)

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 03:56 (seventeen years ago)

ive never heard this song. i saw godspeed ybe once and fell asleep, and i never liked mogwai, but i did a radio show with a dude who LOVED mogwai. i guess i dont love post-rock.

on the other hand, i like steve albini and some slint, so maybe ill eventually come around?

69, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 04:51 (seventeen years ago)

elan, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 05:28 (seventeen years ago)

hey dickweeds thanks for making me listen to karate next i'm going listen to the dismemberment plan and cut off my cock

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 05:33 (seventeen years ago)

jk

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 05:33 (seventeen years ago)

mogwai are OK, they opened for pavement @ show I saw on brighten the corners tour (in charlottesville).. come on die young i like because it's so loud but lost interest after that. it's the jazzy post rock that i have no idea what that's about.

also i used to really like slint (maybe still do, its been a couple years since I heard them).. they are creepy in a good way. tweez is on vinyl & left in a drawer back @ mom's house, and spiderland in cd wallet left at old dc house.. i think i have some obscure reunion single somewhere? unless i lost it moving? every time i move a bunch of albums disappear.

daria-g, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 05:35 (seventeen years ago)

reading Karate reviews on pitchfork is totally weird with today's american apparel banner ads.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 05:35 (seventeen years ago)

ugh dplan DO NOT WANT

daria-g, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 05:35 (seventeen years ago)

I've been listening to the RODAN record

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 05:35 (seventeen years ago)

I hope the dude from the dismemberment plan gets hit by a bus

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 05:36 (seventeen years ago)

College was so shitty.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 05:36 (seventeen years ago)

i have teh rodan record too from the stack of vinyl i ordered from touch & go back in late 90s and can't play any of it :(

saw dplan @ fort reno and was like uh, i don't get it.. scene girl says back to me "WELL, I FILMED THEIR FIRST TOUR" all pissy and I'm like UH

daria-g, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 05:38 (seventeen years ago)

The first record is ok if you like every every chord having a tritone

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 13:50 (seventeen years ago)

hey dickweeds thanks for making me listen to karate next i'm going listen to the dismemberment plan and cut off my cock

haha jesus people freaked out over karate when they first came out! I was like WTF this is boring bullshit.

i like the rodan record, haven't listened to it in awhile. they were cool live, too.

finally pulled out slint last week after not listening to it for years. wow, what a drummer.

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 13:54 (seventeen years ago)

oh and the promise ring. jesus christ.

i guess to get back on point, i never really "got" tortoise.

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 13:56 (seventeen years ago)

"i" "got" "tortoise"

Jordan, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 14:45 (seventeen years ago)

they were really good live. I think the s/t is their best record. "onions wrapped in rubber."

I liked Rodan too.

never got into Godspeed or the Rachels or any of that stuff though

dmr, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

i moved to chicago in 98 because of post rock

I lived there the summer of 96 for the same reason.

When Millions Now Living came out, or before it, John Mcentire brought a pre-release copy on cassette to Oberlin for the people at the record store, one of whom I'm pretty sure pronounced it "DJ'd". The other side of the tape was all the Stereolab tracks he produced for Emperor Tomato Ketchup and singles.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:13 (seventeen years ago)

the mogwai/gybe (and later explosions in the sky) branch of postrock really has nothing to do with the tortoises

cutty, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:25 (seventeen years ago)

crescendo rock is a better term for those jocks. friday night lights, anyone?

cutty, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:25 (seventeen years ago)

The Promise Ring is ok with me but I never listen to that shit. Rachels is pretty ok; record with Matmos good find a while back. Cutty otm

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

i listened to "very emergency" last week but i don't even know why we are talking about the promise ring here?

cutty, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:32 (seventeen years ago)

i think i'm entering the phase where i'm only going to listen to the music i listened to in high school (1993-1997) for the rest of my life

cutty, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:33 (seventeen years ago)

I downloaded the bad Mineral album the other day!

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:35 (seventeen years ago)

hahaha Mineral. next it will be Christie Front Drive

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:38 (seventeen years ago)

Please no.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:41 (seventeen years ago)

The last SDRE ("The Rising Tide") is underrated. LP2 is the best tho

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 18:41 (seventeen years ago)
