early november in sf: mike patton / lesser / zach hill trio at slim's

(Jon L), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

this cd is kinda sucking. needs more wanky guitar and less emo crybaby vocals.

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Their album covers seemed ugly when I saw 'em.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Holly (an appletross), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Also these drums sound super assy, like they were recorded with half a mic.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE HEATMISER WTF

five years pass...

new free ZH single avail on amazon, and is pretty sick. Can't think of any other bands doing stuff like this, noise/prog/dubstep hybrid, but in pop-song forms. also maybe like a noisy, freer Battles, with funner hooks and harder edge.

Dominique, Friday, 3 September 2010 22:21 (fifteen years ago)

I like "Memo to the Man" better than Battles

dmr, Saturday, 4 September 2010 00:27 (fifteen years ago)

is it similar to his previous solo album?

sarahel, Saturday, 4 September 2010 00:30 (fifteen years ago)

read that as "beter than the Beatles"

not everything is a campfire (ian), Saturday, 4 September 2010 01:08 (fifteen years ago)

of the two or three songs I've heard from it, it's a little more cleaned up sonically, and the songs were shorter than most of the last album (that said, maybe there will also be 8 minute drum solos on this record). the manic, post compression-as-weapon production is one of the coolest parts, and it seems like he's getting better at making the army of noises and beats make sense amongst the chaos

Dominique, Saturday, 4 September 2010 01:48 (fifteen years ago)

one month passes...

street teaming is always a funny feeling, but this ended up being pretty much exactly what i wanted. all short tunes, mostly song-type songs. imo a big improvement over the first one: http://zachhill.bandcamp.com/

Dominique, Monday, 11 October 2010 15:34 (fifteen years ago)

album is great.
