Ian c=====8 (orion), Friday, 24 September 2004 04:12 (twenty-one years ago)

in 4th grade i new a kid named roland who was from poland.

you can make some mean noise on a roland.

and coincidentally, our prinicpal used to paddle roland outside the class every day for not doing his homework.

whack!

later on it was acknowledged that poor roland couldn't read english. FUCKERS.

ah ohio, why didn't devo run into my school and save our asses?
m.

ps roland was teh noiseboy. shame that like a boys choir, hairful puberty ruins certain noisemaking areas. the prime years of noise learning are ruined!!! where's the nair? roland was very electroclash too. pale as crap and red, buzzed hair and freakin total nerd clothes... and i couldn't talk cause i was clothed in solid goodwill fashions. yeah, so poland is good stuff to me. i hope roland survived.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

my polish "uncle" once captivated us at polish christmas by telling stories about his days spent smuggling chewing gum across communist borders pre fall of the iron curtain. he'd make everyone sit around him in a circle and he'd get indignant if people stopped listening or started other conversations. once he ran out of gum smuggling stories he produced a burned cd-r of polish hip-hop from his silver sport jacket and loudly proclaimed them the "polish wu-tang clan"

polish people in poland seemed pretty cool. polish people in greenpoint, on the other hand, appear to have been sent there bcz they did something very, very bad in the homeland.

ally, krakow is quaint and dirt cheap and fun to spend a few days in. they specialize in amber jewelry that's good for mom souvenirs, and also insanely fussy giant handmade blown glass xmas tree ornaments that sell for about $50 each here. there, you can get a box of six for like $20. if you like cathedrals (and who doesn't, really), you'll be pleased to hear that the one in krakow has the most unbelievably garish, opulent interior that i've seen in any cathedral anywhere, full stop.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 24 September 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

my mom LOVES those ornaments. i used to have a box of them but they were stolen :(
