Nature Company Stores were recognizable by their stone entranceway arch and water feature, customized to each location. All stores had extravagantly built custom cabinetry to showcase the maps, fossils, minerals and gems that were sold. The original store concept was designed by the San Francisco office of the award winning retail architect Richard Altuna. Later stores in the chain were designed and rolled-out by the San Francisco office of the firm NBBJ.

What became of the store The Nature Company?

Hello ,
The Nature Company was sold to the Discovery Channel in 1996 and started to convert them into Discovery channel stores. The chain shut down in 2007.

<3 nerd stores
always coveted the telescopes. had old-school clunky binoculars instead - not good enough to see the stars well tho, ohwell. i did have some of those wooden 3D dinosaur models and glow sticks. i still wld like an indoor waterfall that plays ambient nature songs (with fuzzy synth).
rip the nature company, at least we still have planetarium and science centre gift hops

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 00:12 (fourteen years ago)

i knew youd post in this thread rrrobyn

max, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 00:16 (fourteen years ago)

i would've posted earlier but was superbusy working
these shops and planetarium and aquarium and science centre giftshops were 1000x more awesome to me than toy stores when i was a kid. i mean, if these had had science-princess space-explorer barbie i wouldn't have cared abt toy stores.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 00:21 (fourteen years ago)

my favourite stuffed animal for a long time was a dolphin my dad bought me for my birthday at the vancouver aquarium

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 00:23 (fourteen years ago)

i wish i was in the nature company right now. so relaxing.

the best was the air and space museum gift shop in DC, basically one of my top 10 favorite places in the world till i was 12

max, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 00:38 (fourteen years ago)

max, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 00:39 (fourteen years ago)

btw bert jansch can still play a fuckin guitar.
he did two jackson c frank songs. you can guess the two.
and my favorite song of his! 'it don't bother me.'
and a song from a brendan behan play, his own arrangement. the old triangle. it was gorgeous. i didn't even know brendan behan wrote songs.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 06:37 (fourteen years ago)

i have been to pubs named both the old triangle and brendan behan

haha, end of the second band on side 2 makes Ivan wake up and look around all alarmed. smallest toad in north america with the highest pitched call! love it.

it's beautiful that they play these frogs and THEN slow them down and play them again at the lower speed, for comparison to other frog voices.
