Why can't he be more "Southern"?

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

you're like my mom.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I do like Etta James.

And I worry that you're not eating right.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
Last night I learned he is "not a Japanophile" either.

So there you go.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm no more a Japanophile than I am an Americophile/Germanophile/Brazilophile/Francophile etc.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

...Anglophile.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you a child of Peel?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic Peel Sessions I remember:

Pavement
Truman's Water
Mercury Rev
...Michael Mayer

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax is a goodmusicophile.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

according to you or your significant other?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

both -- i guess that means you are in trouble.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Gygax, do you like OS MUTANTES?

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I LOVE OS MUTANTES BUT I AM NOT GYGAX! TROPICALIA IS THE KITTY's MIAOW.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's be friends, JACK COLE.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the earlier os mutatnes stuff but i don't find it any more "out" as the early gal costa or joyce records.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you have those? I have some Gal Costa. I don't know if it is "early".

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Gal Costa is one of the sexiest women ever. "Baby" makes me feel funny.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

both gal costa and joyce are fantastic. i like the version of "baby" that os mutantes did in the early 70s.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that English language album they did in Paris has some moments. Also, the third Mutantes album isn't as good as the first two, but that "Desculpe, Baby" song...

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Also: all you Tropicalistas out there in cyberspace! Find a copy of Charles Perrone's Masters of Contemporary Brazilian song book in a library somewhere or something so that you can read the Veloso and Gil chapters. Lyric translations and analysis increases love of their early LPs immensely.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm listening to Jorge Ben right now (not quite tropicalia, but sure is funky), and yesterday i listened to Rita Lee's first solo album, Build Up (even though the other dudes from the mutantes are on it). not quite as freaky as the Mutantes stuff, but still pretty good. kinda orchestrated.

gygax, what Joyce do you have that's "out"? i have her album with Nelson Angelo, and it's totally fab, but sounds more like a laid back Milton Nacimiento album. but how cute is she?
http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/dre400/e422/e42256dwwfj.jpg

speaking of, Milton's album "Clube Da Esquina" is so fucking fabulous. it totally takes a while to grow on you, but once it does, woo boy! and there's some great fuzzy guitar near the end.

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

man, i can't find crap for any of that stuff here. blah. i've been reading mr v.'s book and want the real albums, not the best of crap dances...
m.

msp (msp), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

mr v = veloso?

where are you now? midwest somewhere?

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, nashville... there's some here and there. i'm overstating my dramah. but i haven't been able to find the c.v. cd i really want. i think it's import action only. so i'll have probably order it. so it goes.

m.

msp (msp), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Joyce got less cute over the years, and a lot more soccer mom. But she's still a good singer.

dleone (dleone), Thursday, 26 August 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax you ARE a treat

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

JaX0n, the end of "clareana" for example that has that really crazy chord progression, the out of left field string crescendo and then the kids joining in is pretty wild for 1970.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...

The titan sings a lonely song
Now the whaler's work is done
She's crying for her little one
I bow my mortal head in shame
This murderous insanity
The madness of humanity
I hear the ocean
Call my name
Singing liquid lullabies
To wash the rivers from my eyes
Dolphin heal this human heart
If I should live a thousand years
I couldn't cross this ocean of tears

Through the foam
They call me
Oceana's calling me home
Through the surf
They call me
And their capacity to love
Infinitely exceeds that of the
Savages who live on these lands

They sing of secret places
Where divers never go
Of magic and of mystery
Weaving dreams of harmony
Through waters that are crystal clear
And aqua marine
Streams of dolphin energy
Gently flowing over me
In trance-like wonder
I will stare
Intoxicating scenes
Slow motion so serene
Ripples of tranquility
Wash me away
With visions of an open sea
Underneath a ceiling of stars

Sons of Adam
Daughters of Eve
The beasts within your brotherhood
Have turned our waters
Red with blood
Sons of Adam
Daughters of Eve
Cast away your cruelty
And soon you'll sail an ocean
Of stars
