why aren't there more circular rotating knives in this world?

the only ones i can think of are pizza slicers (A+) and fictional ones like in indiana jones movies. but it seems like the optimum knife design because no blade edge area is wasted. do they make circular rotating steak knives or bread knives that i don't know about?

You ever try to stab somebody with a pizza cutter? It's just not the same.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 7 March 2008 16:29 (seventeen years ago)

well you couldn't stab them, but you could slice them. it's hard to stab someone with any circular blade, i would imagine.

Slicing only causes surface damage. Unless there's an electrical outlet in the alley for that circular saw, a nice long blade is going to be your best bet.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 7 March 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

what about a larger, sharper pizza cutter-type weapon that runs on batteries or has a recharging base?

n/a, Friday, 7 March 2008 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

and anyway knives are for more than just stabbing

this thread has gotten distasteful, it makes me feel like a 12-year-old hoodlum ;_;

saw one of these at the store the other day that didn't have a handle (you just kinda palm it across the pizza, or whatever)

Disadvantage of rolling knife edge = no friction. Good for stuff like pizza, which is very thin and soft, unbruisable, so easily cut just w/ downward pressure. But not good for much else.

Even w/ a very sharp edge, (non-pizza) pie crust needs friction for a clean cut. Same goes for steak. Circular blade would probably mash more than cut.

Little electic-motor-driven circular saw would be fun for destroying food though.
