car talk fuckin' rules

El Tomboto, Monday, 24 March 2008 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

Car talk easy dude but host of wait wait is a super secret porno freako.

libcrypt, Monday, 24 March 2008 20:08 (eighteen years ago)

When I listen to W/W I imagine Peter Sagal furtively wanking under the table.

libcrypt, Monday, 24 March 2008 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

HOLY SHIT!!!!

My dad and I always concoct some ridiculous errand to run on the weekend just so we can listen to Car Talk together.

Paula Poundstone is always on WW and is HORRIBLE.

nickalicious, Monday, 24 March 2008 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

those WW chuckleheads are all pretty awful

Mr. Que, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

When I listen to Paula Poundstone, I also imagine her wanking, but like with a Tonka toy.

libcrypt, Monday, 24 March 2008 21:23 (eighteen years ago)

Car Talk is better but gets old faster. WW is consistently just-amusing-enough to have on while doing housecleaning on weekends.

Hurting 2, Monday, 24 March 2008 23:55 (eighteen years ago)

ww keeps you up to date on weird news and often times has candid interviews with people you would not usually hear candid interviews from during the "not my job" segment. car talk is one joke over and over again (don't drive like my brother x 1000 variables on that premise) with useful info every once in a while. ww also has mo rocca, pj o'rourke as a punching bag, roy blunt (hilarious), and tom bodett. ww for the win.

chaki, Monday, 24 March 2008 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

Car Talk doesn't usually reach the same heights of funny, but is more consistently satisfying/interesting and has good music and is up against less competition. Some of WW can be good - Not My Job, Roy Blount, Kasell, Sagal and one of the other guys (I think it's Felber rather than Charlie whatever) - but sometimes it's just bad, and if you get much news there, you're not paying enough attention.

gabbneb, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

fuckin' love click and clack

we have a ripoff of this show on our radio station called "car concerns"

roxymuzak, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 02:09 (eighteen years ago)

WW is kind of a joke in that if you've listened to All Things Considered for the past week, each question is a total sneeze. It's like a 1hr ad for ATC.

However, I love Paula Poundstone. Pervert or no, she's awesome.

libcrypt, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 02:12 (eighteen years ago)

Car Talk, by a mile.

Mainly because it is information that I don't get from anywhere else. Obviously I like the car fixing stuff but nobody's yet mentioned the amount of relationship advice they give -- often combined with the car talk -- for humorous and practical effect.

felicity, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 02:16 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I also like Roy Blount.

Hurting 2, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 02:50 (eighteen years ago)

WW is the total embodiment of NPR humor and also apparently chaki likes it so it sucks obviously

What I love about Car Talk isn't the jokes, it's the infectious nature of the Magliozzi brothers' laughter.

I think I like WW just a tad more, though.

Michael White, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

btw Car Talk is humor and WW is comedy

i love "the puzzler".

not solving it - just hearing them laugh about it.

ni jo leeeeeee, Sunday, 20 April 2008 06:20 (seventeen years ago)

i would have voted car talk if i had seen this in time.

ni jo leeeeeee, Sunday, 20 April 2008 06:20 (seventeen years ago)

It's okay, we smashed the news losers anyhow.

It's all in the laughter. They make you laugh at everything because you start to feel silly for NOT laughing.

El Tomboto, Sunday, 20 April 2008 06:26 (seventeen years ago)

I've never driven, so I have never even bother to check out Car Talk.

I listen to WW cuz Sagal and Roy (the funny Blount) are generally amusing, and I like hearing Carl Kassel (sp?) say dumb lines.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 21 April 2008 13:56 (seventeen years ago)

four years pass...

car talk would be better if, instead of actually answering callers' questions about cars, or discussing any automotive issues whatsoever, they would just cackle about the caller's name and make condescending jokes about where they're from and ask the obligatory question about what they do, but then, as soon as the caller attempts to answer, immediately start cackling again, just an intense deluge of gasping, hysterical cackling that goes on for minutes and minutes and minutes while the caller attempts and fails to be heard over them. and then just hang up and play hillbilly music and take another call

I met him briefly after he saw me perform "When You're Good To Mama" and "Cell Block Tango" in horrifying drag at a fundraiser cabaret for my church choir

i don't know how you would make these distinctions; i'd call Ray arguably the more of each of those, but you could make an argument for Tom on each as well. Tom was the second banana, i'd say, and the hippier of the two.

http://www.cartalk.com/blogs/staff-blog/tom-magliozzi-1937-2014

Tom Magliozzi who, along with his brother Ray, hosted NPR’s hit comedy show Car Talk for the last 37 years, died Monday morning from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. “Turns out he wasn’t kidding,” said Ray. “He really couldn’t remember last week’s puzzler.”

:( RIP

nothing made me dive for the off button faster than Car Talk, with those MA vocal honks.

In memoriam, I will make "here's puzzlemaster Will Shortz" and any question asked by Terry Gross my leading bete noires.
