I could not swim until I was fourteen. Now I can, but only in a really utilitarian way. No frills!

hampsterfrench (hampsterfrench), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

my feathers would get terribly wet if i try to swim and i'd sink and die.

Very "method", that.

one year passes...
Revive -- this was an irreverent and inspiring thread about swimming that didn't get nearly enough play in its time, the balmy month of August 2004.

It was August of 2004 when New Jersey governor James McGreevey announced that he was "a gay American."

It was August of 2004 when athletes of the world came together for the Summer Olympics in Athens.

It was August of 2004 when 1p3 took a moment out to ask its dear members "can you swim? If so - how well".

Oh, now I swim all the time. I go to the beach every weekend, and Nijoli and I last year started inventing swim strokes, we went to the pool so often.

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Friday, 5 May 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

I can swim.

I swam one-third of a triathlon in my teenage years.

I did not swim much in August of 2004, though it were balmy.

Have a favorite swimming stroke?

I knew this thread had some life left in it.

Swim on, fair ILXor of springtime!

Confounded (Confounded), Friday, 5 May 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

I swim pretty good. Mostly back and breast. Which is appropriate as that's my favorite part of the chicken.
Delicious chicken backs.

best part about swimming is the swimming.

I always thought that swim stroke thread above needed some more attention.

Roxy and I swam in the lake just last week!

A good/bad swim memory for me is when a little teenage Roxy came over to my apartment for an evening swim and we decided that we should use a lawn chair as a ladder up to the floaty divider thing in the center of the pool. While climbing the "ladder", she fell and got her head stuck thru the chair and began slowly sinking with a chair around her head...

We were equal parts GIGGLE and FEAR.

i'm not a bad swimmer. i used to be on the swimteam. i was good at the breast stroke. the butterfly was always very hard. and the crawl required a lot of upper-body strength. backstroke was fun.

Surmounter, Friday, 4 July 2008 18:23 (seventeen years ago)

backstroke was tricky tho cuz it was a lot easier to like veer off into the next lane. and then you had to watch out for the flag overhead to know when you were approaching the wall! sometimes i hit my head. not often.

Surmounter, Friday, 4 July 2008 18:23 (seventeen years ago)

a good swim right now would be perfection

Surmounter, Saturday, 5 July 2008 03:21 (seventeen years ago)

I want to go swimming now!

I live a 30 min walk from the beach. Theoretically speaking, I could go swimming any day.

yes - okay.

the most astonishing writer on ilx (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 00:41 (thirteen years ago)

my ability has tapered off substantially from a year ago. I start losing breath halfway across the lane. (breaststroke or freestyle only)
