some good examples:

The residents were understandably annoyed that their bowel movements were being exploited in their address in this way, so the beginning and end of the name was lopped off and it became the more euphonic Anita Street.
an example which is good, but sounds bad:
near where I grew up in Palmers Green, there is a street called Cherry Blossom Close. You might think "ugh!" as I generally do when confronted with urban areas made out to be some rural idyll, but the Cherry Blossom in question refers to the fact that there was formerly a Metal Box factory on the site where they made the round metal tins for Cherry Blossom shoe polish
