Bad - Semoran Boulevard

bamcquern, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:24 (sixteen years ago)

how do you even pronounce that?

sarahel, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

Debates. My friend swear she saw Unitah, but I google mapped it.

Semoran is like that, too. People don't tend to say it the same way.

bamcquern, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:36 (sixteen years ago)

it kinda looks like an answer to some cryptic crossword clue where you have to put a word or other letters inside another word.

sarahel, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:38 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah. Last night while I was going to bed I think I started to get cryptic crosswords. With a sheet of paper I might be able to start doing them.

bamcquern, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:41 (sixteen years ago)

i wish i got them. i feel like i should, but i don't.

sarahel, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

Harper's has been baffling completely me for a few years now. I think it's like when I first started playing NetHack, and it took me a year or two before I could actually play it and know what was going on.

bamcquern, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:43 (sixteen years ago)

i don't know what it is, but i'm really drawn to magazines, and have impulses to buy a lot of them, and end up rarely buying them as some attempt at instilling self-discipline.

sarahel, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:45 (sixteen years ago)

Haha. I stare at magazine racks.

bamcquern, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:46 (sixteen years ago)

By the way, "ipe is not tittwis."

bamcquern, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:47 (sixteen years ago)

whenever i see "tittwis" i want to pronounce it like a word, but i'm going to stop derailing like this before roxy bans me again.

sarahel, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:54 (sixteen years ago)

Derailing is part of my posting style.

bamcquern, Sunday, 8 November 2009 23:59 (sixteen years ago)

Multi-spectral Imogene (los blue jeans), Sunday, 10 October 2010 00:56 (fifteen years ago)

ten months pass...

some good examples:

-- in Sunderland, when they knocked down the football team's old ground, Roker Park, they decided to commemorate it by calling the streets on the subsequent housing estate Promotion Close, Clockstand Close, Goalmouth Close, Midfield Drive, Turnstile Mews and Roker Park Close.

-- in Salford they decided to celebrate the fact that they had just built a street of houses with indoor flushing toilets by naming it Sanitary Street. The residents were understandably annoyed that their bowel movements were being exploited in their address in this way, so the beginning and end of the name was lopped off and it became the more euphonic Anita Street.

an example which is good, but sounds bad:

near where I grew up in Palmers Green, there is a street called Cherry Blossom Close. You might think "ugh!" as I generally do when confronted with urban areas made out to be some rural idyll, but the Cherry Blossom in question refers to the fact that there was formerly a Metal Box factory on the site where they made the round metal tins for Cherry Blossom shoe polish
