(Doug) Henning's most notorious feat of prestidigitation involved a dozen oven roasters which, to the amazement of the audience, appeared to "uncook" themselves, regenerate feathers and heads, and strut about the stage once they had completed their transformation back into live chickens. Henning remained tight-lipped for years about the illusion, but it's rumored that he passed along the "secret recipe" to his long-time friend Robert Shields (one half of the mime duo Shields and Yarnell) while Henning was on his deathbed. Shields has yet to confirm the veracity of this rumor by performing the illusion in public, but he has maintained a cryptic silence when the subject has been broached in recent interviews.
