Dear (Thanksgiving) Leftovers Sandwich,

you are the best part of thanksgiving. your combination of turkey (or tofurkey), mashed potatoes, cranberries, stuffing and gravy between two slices of bread (perhaps with a bit of mayo or a slice of cheese) surpasses thanksgiving dinner itself. your total is much greater the the sum of your parts. your deliciousness has no compare. i look forward to eating you tomorrow nite. you may even get to come to work with me on friday.

yours,

dear grady,

will you be making your little dog one of these sandwiches too, because that is the right thing for you to do. this is just to remind you in case you get so greedy you forget your morals, and who your best hungry friend is.

yours,

estela ("we know dogs")

estela, Thursday, 22 November 2007 04:10 (eighteen years ago)

dear grady guess what,

i read your sandwich aloud to my poor husband who is working on thanksgiving while all the rest of his family are hanging out together in l.a. and he looked so pathetically crestfallen and wistful and starving i went straight out and bought a turkey. we are going to cook it tomorrow (saturday) and i am going to bake some pies and some of our friends are coming over to eat it all. hopefully while we're eating we'll get a new government:D

estela, Friday, 23 November 2007 01:38 (eighteen years ago)

geady you are so otm here

roxymuzak, Friday, 23 November 2007 06:40 (eighteen years ago)

guys i went to make a leftover sandwich today and the only bread i had was moldy!!! i was so focused on making sure i had all the proper leftovers that i forgot to make sure i had a decent loaf of bread.

leftover sandwich will have to wait till tomorrow. and sunday.

also, estela, my dog did get to eat some turkey yesterday. i am a veg. and since there is rarely meat around my place she was v. v. happy about it. i think the tryptophan is still in her system.

gr8080, Saturday, 24 November 2007 02:41 (eighteen years ago)

Y'all ever put sweet potatoes on yours?

roxymuzak, Saturday, 24 November 2007 22:51 (eighteen years ago)

aw grady, your sleepy little happy dog <3<3
my turkeyfed dog is lying by the window using his piglet as a pillow, i saw him give piglet a dainty kiss just before he fell asleep, so ridiculous.
we had three little dogs here last night for thanksgiving dinner, they were all very good except there was a small fight over a rawhide stick that was a bit rotten.
we got the new government we wanted!
sandwiches pending.

estela, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:24 (eighteen years ago)

i didnt have turkey on my thanksgiving but this cafe near my house made reallllly good "pilgrim" sandwiches (as these are called where i come from) and fuck if they arent basically the best sandwiches in the whole goddamn world

max, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:27 (eighteen years ago)

what's in them?

estela, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

the essential components are turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce

max, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:36 (eighteen years ago)

and usually a little bit of gravy

max, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

sorry a "pilgrim" sandwich is a thanksgiving leftovers sandwich if that wasnt clear

max, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:43 (eighteen years ago)

no it was clear, i just wanted a precise ingredients list. they sound delicious. and i have all those ingredients here plus some delicious little semi-sourdough rolls.

estela, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

most people add other stuff too--usually normal sandwich stuff like mayo, cheese, lettuce, etc. works well with this

max, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

i like a dab of mayo and a little gruyere swiss plus some kinds of greens

max, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

i am going to have a sandwich with lettuce, cranberry, turkey, stuffing, swiss cheese, plus a side of leftover mashed potato and gravy.

estela, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

Srsly, y'all gotta try this with just a slight spread of sweet potatoes on the bread!

roxymuzak, Sunday, 25 November 2007 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

estela, Sunday, 25 November 2007 01:19 (eighteen years ago)
