Where is Max? He could be of use here.

Also, "What other dances are there?"

What other dances are there?

key

goole, Friday, 18 September 2009 03:40 (fifteen years ago)

i remember the first time i heard about this scene, i was genuinely perplexed that such a thing could exist

velko, Friday, 18 September 2009 03:42 (fifteen years ago)

i could've used this FAQ

velko, Friday, 18 September 2009 03:42 (fifteen years ago)

Oh there are lots of other dances. See: windmill.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Friday, 18 September 2009 03:47 (fifteen years ago)

kind of funny story:

i was in a class on music and urban geography (lol) taught by this young belgian/anglo/indian guy who'd done his dissertation on youth travel and goa trance (kind of lol). we all had to give some kind of presentation, and this sweet little girl gave a very earnest talk on sxe with a bunch of video of insaaane teenage mosh pits and underground dvds of tattoo'd dudes from boston kicking the crap out of each other in alleyways, talking about their movement and their resistance etc. after it the prof was visibly shaken and had no vocabulary, all the deleuze or whatever, gone. "none of these men...are drinking?? youth culture...can be...very strange."

goole, Friday, 18 September 2009 03:47 (fifteen years ago)

Kind of funny story: dude in the video are maybe ones I used to know.

While I was never actually straight edge some of my best friends were for a long long time and I know a lot more about that whole thing than I probably should.

I have seen Earth Crisis . . . more than once. Oh man. The first time was at a club in Syracuse NY in like 1997 and I remember standing at the back smoking while all these big dudes glared at me. ha.

Oh man. My friend recently got a hold of some collection of videos from some old CT sXe band and he was on film at multiple shows as a really earnest and awesome 15 year old going nuts at the front. It was some of the best stuff I've ever seen. So young. So naive. lol.

My wife's younger brother was in a vegan straightedge hardcore band for a while in college, before he and all his friends stopped being straightedge vegans. They toured the US and Europe, nothing big but at least a couple people knew who they were. He actually was outed on a website that seems to no longer exist for selling out because now he "drinks beers and mostly listens to hip-hop", if I remember correctly.

joygoat, Friday, 18 September 2009 04:26 (fifteen years ago)

I voted "Don't most stop being straight-edge when they reach drinking age?" because I kind of want to know what answer they have that isn't "yes, in fact most stop being straight-edge when they reach driving age"

yo gotti gotti! (Curt1s Stephens), Friday, 18 September 2009 04:27 (fifteen years ago)

Well I will say that many of my most extreme hardcore friends "broke edge" at around 22/23. That said, I know a lot of ppl who did so recently and are closer to 30 so I guess it varies.

Dude I knew in college had a custom spare tire cover on his Ford Bronco II that said IF YOU'RE NOT NOW YOU NEVER WERE with a big X in the middle. He's also no longer straightedge.

joygoat, Friday, 18 September 2009 04:57 (fifteen years ago)

I remember my stepsister - she was 28 and I was 14 - telling me it was spelled poseur. She also tried to get me to listen to the Velvet Underground, and I was convinced they would sound like Strawberry Alarm Clock or something. I said, "No thank you!"

well "poseur" is the correct spelling in proper english ... in American musical subcultures populated by adolescents, it is spelled "poser"

my display name is an honor student at ilx high school (sarahel), Friday, 18 September 2009 20:33 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, of course. I just remember the time she pointed it out. And then I said it to this kid who really loved Gin Blossoms and Smashing Pumpkins and he said that was stupid and wrong. Then eventually that kid wrote me a hate letter! And then when he grew up he started dating really young girls, like 15, and he was friends with a mutual friend who once said, "People always kept saying that he had child porn on his computer, and I said that that was stupid, and I defended him, and then one day I saw it, and we're not friends anymore." So eff that guy. It's just what my stepsister said.

This site is dedicated to the Militant Vegan Straight Edge movement. When i say militant i am not refering ot the close minded out there, those who take their convictions way to far resulting in unjustified violence. Militance simply means to have a strong belief,( to stand up for what you believe no matter what) i am a militant. no i do not belong to some left wing political group bent on changing the world by force. however, the world does need to change. we as a society look upon problems and expect them to be fixed with out any actions on our own part. we are a lazy people. Sexism, needs to be gotten rid of. we are all equal in the eyes of God. Racism, the is no room for ignorance in this world. looking down on someone just bedause of their ethnic background is childish and ignorant. how can we learn from one another when we look down on everyone who is not like us? Abortion. Murder. there is no good reason to kill an unborn INNOCENT child who has done nothing but be concieved. why kill somethign that you helped create? a beautiful harmless child whose soul purpose is to learn and grow in a dying world. Straight Edge. yes i am straight edge. no i am not sXe for wanyone else but myself. this is a personal commitment and promise i have made to myself. i took the "oath" when i was 13 years old. this commitment is a strong one. drugs, alcohol, smoking and sex are all escapes from the problems in this world. problems few are willing ot face head on. "i need a cig. to help me relax" sorry, but that is a load of crap. i dont need a cig to help me relax. i dont need to rot my lungs in order to deal with stress. stop making excuses for yourself. "drugs help me think clearer" my foot it does. you cloud ur mind in order to see thigns you don't normally see. how stupid can peopel be? i don't get it. let me poison my body and attempt to function in this world. this society is going to crap. and i will be there with my brothers and sisters to flush it on its way. with that said, take a look through the rest of the site if you care to.

two years pass...

Anonymous asked: Why can't you have been edge before and reclaim again? I mean if you are going to make the commitment for life, i dont see why you should be condemed to a one time try. People make mistakes and fuck up. But if straightedge is a personal thing like so many edge kids say, why does it matter if someone broke but after being sober and clean for a long time wants to claim again?
You know, that’s a really good question, and I think it just comes down to the age of the youth movement.

If straight edge was a 2000-year-old religion, there would be churches, and people could go in on Sunday’s and apologize for not being straight edge during the week. And everyone would laugh and smile and be terrified of people finding out that they were only straight edge on Sundays. And we would have sway over elected officials and vote our way into control of the country.

But as a youth movement, Straight Edge is only 30 years old. Which means that at this point in its evolution, it has to set more strict guidelines in order to maintain the integrity of the community. Look at the #Occupy movement. Every time someone steps out of line, the media jumps all over them as being representative of the entire movement, and justifying its termination.

So at this point, the guidelines are necessary to ensure survival.
