What does it mean to be "in love"? Does it refer to the passionate period of a romantic relationship? Does it refer to romantic love, or intense romantic love? Is it a threshold of love? Where does it begin and where does it end? How does one distinguish between deep love and being in love? Is it too linguistically ambiguous to use and therefore folly to focus on whether one is in love or not, or whether another is in love or not? Is there ever certainty and also ambiguity, like in that Kylie Minogue is certainly pop music, but Leonard Cohen maybe is or maybe isn't, depending on whom you ask?
― bamcquern, Sunday, 27 January 2008 22:27 (eighteen years ago)
Welcome back!
I can not speak for the rest of my 1p3 constutuents, but I think that the definition of "in love" is certainly a very personal matter. I have considered myself in love only once! Some people definitely think "in love" = when you "fall for" a person (I think this is what you mean by "the passionate period of a romantic relationship"?)...that's a little too simple for me, though I've struggled with defining it any further for myself.
Your opinions, 1p3? Esteban?

PS, Bryce, I have a gif of you opening and closing a toilet. Do you know what I am talking about? I can post it here, if you want.
― roxymuzak, Sunday, 27 January 2008 22:49 (eighteen years ago)
i have thought myself "in love" twice, but once it was with my high-school's most famously loose girl, and the other time with a junkie that lived next door. unless my love life is guided by a cruel, weird deity, i don't think i really know what "to be in love" is, but i certainly feel a nearly overhwelming amount oflove for my family, friends, students and pets.
― remy bean, Sunday, 27 January 2008 22:53 (eighteen years ago)
also my teapot. love that mofo.
Post the gif, yo.
I haven't been on in six months because I didn't realize that ilxor's password email was being sent to my bulk folder, where it was instantly deleted.

Kurt and I are about to watch a Nietzsche biopic.
― bamcquern, Sunday, 27 January 2008 23:30 (eighteen years ago)
What do you do when you love someone very much but that person is insulted when you tell saidsame person you're not in love with him?
― bamcquern, Sunday, 27 January 2008 23:31 (eighteen years ago)
Was reading John Armstrong's book Conditions of Love last night for clues.
― bamcquern, Sunday, 27 January 2008 23:33 (eighteen years ago)
xpost, I've been in this situation many times. You need to leave them alone and let them get over you. You can be friends later. Hanging around them now is only gonna make them feel shittier and shittier and make the process take a long time.
― roxymuzak, Sunday, 27 January 2008 23:54 (eighteen years ago)
I was under the impression that Kurt's name was actually spelled Kurdt."
Not making a joke!
― roxymuzak, Sunday, 27 January 2008 23:55 (eighteen years ago)
Except you're in a relationship with this person.
Cheap Nietzsche biopic is out. Now we're watching Rockers. Kurt sez, "Silly rastafarians with their pot smoking."
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:00 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, being in a relationship with a person is not the smartest time to be blabbing to a person that you aren't in love with them.
Kurt is otm! I bet that he will like the dancing. I remember: When we watched that together, I complimented the clothes of the guys at the party and you said, "They kind of dress like my friend Kurt."
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:04 (eighteen years ago)
Is Kurt happy that you are hanging out with him and just posting to 1p3? Haw
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:07 (eighteen years ago)
(Bryce, until now, all of your 1p3 posting has been Jean-related)
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:11 (eighteen years ago)
Discussing rastafarianism. Wikipedia time.
I wasn't about to lie!
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:17 (eighteen years ago)
The opening scene of Rockers is still my favorite visual example of Nyabinghi drumming ever.
Wait, you are telling me she ASKED? What did she say.
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:18 (eighteen years ago)
Kurt and his girlfriend talked during Burning Spear's entire "Jah No Dead."
Yeah, she asked. She's pretty new to even saying she I-love-you, so I'm not entirely sure where this comes from. We've been having problems anyway, so I wasn't feeling fuzzy when she asked.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:39 (eighteen years ago)
= banned from my life
Is she really young or something?
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:41 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, and really commitment phobic. Also: has anger issues, which is why I wasn't feeling fuzzy. Three nights ago I basically tried to break up with her because of her anger.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:47 (eighteen years ago)
My advice would be to Run To The Hills, Iron Maiden-style.
Do you consider yourself commitment-phobic, Bryce?
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:48 (eighteen years ago)
No, do you consider me commitment-phobic?
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:50 (eighteen years ago)
Where's that gif?
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:51 (eighteen years ago)
What do you think of me becoming a San Francisco cop? I need to make money.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:52 (eighteen years ago)
Well, I never did before, but now I'm starting to think you rush into commitment and then jump ship when a person doesn't meet your expectations? Could be brand of it, even if not an easily recognizable one.
xposts
I think you would be a GREAT(!) SF cop. Try to be one in the 70s.
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:53 (eighteen years ago)
Gif is on the way.
you would have to play Inner Circle's "Bad Boys" in your cruiser 24/7
― gr8080, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:54 (eighteen years ago)
Speaking of Rockers!!!
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:55 (eighteen years ago)
Bryce, please don't be insulted by this, but am I the only girl you've dated who wasn't 12?
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 00:56 (eighteen years ago)
I am being lighthearted!
Basically, although Crissy's 21 or 22. It's a hazard of living in a town where women my age who grew up here have all settled elsewhere. Being among peers or peer-like groups again is a great incentive for leaving.
I don't think I rushed into a relationship.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:03 (eighteen years ago)
That is, I think I have my wits about me.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:04 (eighteen years ago)
I had a longer comment but I deleted it because ILX sternly suggested that I make revisions.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:05 (eighteen years ago)
Haw. So, what do you think you are gonna do re: B?
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:08 (eighteen years ago)
As I would say.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:08 (eighteen years ago)
I dunno. Be nice is what I'm going to do.
That's good (as I would tell you).

― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:10 (eighteen years ago)
(I don't actually know.)
We just watched that part!
I'm jobless and despairing. In other words: not enough.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:11 (eighteen years ago)
yo roxy, i am gonna be roadtripping through denver sometime in the next two months. what do i see w. 3-6 hours and very little in the way of cash?
― remy bean, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:11 (eighteen years ago)
You are asking me about DENVER?! I have never even been there!
Bryce -- I think that once you find a job or a way to make money these worries will mostly disappear.

Kurt said, "He doesn't even know he's depicting a black stereotype!"
Gregory Isaacs = square
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:17 (eighteen years ago)
I didn't understand the Denver comment either. Maybe he thought you knew something intuitively?
I'm glad I have you vote of confidence even though I don't feel it in my heart.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:24 (eighteen years ago)
I used to think that, too, until I realized he was singing "If I don't get my desire then I'll set the plantations on fire."

Where are you cross-posting to? Do I not understand what that means?

It's an ask my bff thread.
Wait, the watermelon man is singing that?

I crossed your other post. I was responding to your Greg Isaacs dis.
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:28 (eighteen years ago)
(No, watermelon dude is just there when "Champion Style" pops bottles. Wait, you mean did he sing "Slave Master." No, Isaacs sings that!)

Ohhh. It's all becoming clear.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:29 (eighteen years ago)
Unthreaded conversations vex I-man.
Kurt says I'd make a good DJ in SF.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:32 (eighteen years ago)
I have to start collecting phone numbers for the background check if I want to be a cop. It's times like this that you wish you turned in your key at your last place of residence after moving.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:34 (eighteen years ago)
Bryce, think about how you get along with co-workers traditionally and think also about how you get along with cops. Now imagine yourself working as a cop.
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:35 (eighteen years ago)
Just get a job playing a cop in a retro TV program.
― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:36 (eighteen years ago)
I get along with co-workers fine. Diane Hammer, et al. are not typical cases.
However, you are right about cops. I reason that some of them must have human, American qualities, and if not in SF, then where?
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:38 (eighteen years ago)
That is, when was the last time you were accused of being a corporate spy? When was the last time you were accused of exposing your chest at work, or accused of stealing based entirely on hearsay and not on accounting?
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:39 (eighteen years ago)
When have you been punished for being too helpful at work?
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:40 (eighteen years ago)
Is that guy even Augustus Pablo? Maybe I have him mixed up with someone else.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:41 (eighteen years ago)
We're going bowling, I think.
― bamcquern, Monday, 28 January 2008 01:44 (eighteen years ago)

When was the last time you were accused of exposing your chest at work
Too many times to count.

― roxymuzak, Monday, 28 January 2008 18:54 (eighteen years ago)
What? Weird?
Hey, where's that gif?
Broke up with that girl unceremoniously. Def moving to SF, but not to be a cop, to be an
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT!
― bamcquern, Thursday, 31 January 2008 22:36 (eighteen years ago)
this town is going to eat you up, aspie.
― chaki, Thursday, 31 January 2008 22:39 (eighteen years ago)
^Wow.
Anyway, since this is essentially the Bryce/Roxy thread, I will say here: today (for BM's birthday) I listened to that reggae mix ("Rude Boy Train") that I used to play 24 hours a day early last year, and I got a little nostalgic for those times. Even though they were mostly horrible. I miss you, a lot!
― roxymuzak, Thursday, 7 February 2008 01:03 (eighteen years ago)
Who is BM? Not me! because my birthday is a month away.
Ug: bowel movement.
I got a best of Desmond Dekker record yesterday. Also listened to an unusual Dekker album on Stiff from 1980 that has some sped up versions of "Many Rivers to Cross" and "007."
― bamcquern, Thursday, 7 February 2008 01:17 (eighteen years ago)
BM = Bob Marley! I didn't even realize the shared initials when I posted and thought stupidly that it would be obvious.
― roxymuzak, Thursday, 7 February 2008 04:20 (eighteen years ago)
I never knew Dekker covered "Many Rivers to Cross"!
I think it was on that. I should look it up . . .
Yeah, Black & Dekker. He also does "Rude Boy Train" and "Israelites" again. I'm a gonna buy it.
― bamcquern, Thursday, 7 February 2008 04:31 (eighteen years ago)
I've heard him do Rude Boy Train, it's a good'n.
― roxymuzak, Thursday, 7 February 2008 04:45 (eighteen years ago)
The guitars on that album sound Les Paul pizzicato. Odd ska.
― bamcquern, Thursday, 7 February 2008 04:52 (eighteen years ago)
How is Les Paul pizzicato any different than any other pizzicato?
Note: When I type "pizzicato," I inadvertently type "pizza" first every time.
― roxymuzak, Thursday, 7 February 2008 04:58 (eighteen years ago)
It sounds like a sped up electric guitar.
― bamcquern, Thursday, 7 February 2008 05:04 (eighteen years ago)
Which may be synthesizers, although there are both on the album. You can't tell.
er, doesn't most ska use electric guitars
― roxymuzak, Thursday, 7 February 2008 05:12 (eighteen years ago)
What? That's not my point. I mean that the electric guitars sound sped up exactly like on a Les Paul album. And I also meant that you cannot tell if they are actually guitars or synthesizers. It's produced in an odd way.
― bamcquern, Thursday, 7 February 2008 05:13 (eighteen years ago)
Ska guitar players strum abrupt strums, yeah I know, I'm not that dumb, but these come and go so quickly as to be chirps.
― bamcquern, Thursday, 7 February 2008 05:15 (eighteen years ago)
What the hell is up with Steely Dan? Is not anyone cold to Steely Dan anymore?
