Position papers, speeches, voting records -- even, if you like, debate transcripts -- these are things all readily available for research and review. Words as well as actions can be accessed very easily, especially now, and you'll forgive me if I prefer to do so that way, at my own pace and in my own preferred way, rather than televised debates.

Poor Ned. Never saw the "wanna buy some wood?" or "what am I doing here?" zingers live.

You're going in with misinformation here, Tuomas. You say "especially since it causes little good and lots of potential harm," which is just not true. Do you have any statistics of facts to back up this whale of a claim?

99% of gun owners - by which I mean people who obtain guns legally for hunting, home defense, sport, etc - are responsible, law abiding citizens.

You want an ethical argument? Then don't start by asking why a 'state' should allow or disallow me ANYTHING that does not directly impede someone else's liberties.

I'm old school in the sense that I feel that, ideally, I should be able to go to Wal Mart and buy a bundle of heroin, three hookers, and an AK-47, and until I hurt someone, stay the fuck off my property and leave me alone. But then, I'm still a wide-eyed idealist.

Looks like he already bought the heroin.

two weeks pass...

A lot of American political thought seems to revolve around the idea that you are either a conservative or a liberal and NOTHING ELSE. Very odd. If you're a libertarian or a socialist or anything else outside of that binary you are considered a total crank.

OK, overgeneralising a bit. But in the context of that Manet piece I think it's fair enough.

Bodrick III, Saturday, 15 March 2008 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

Mamet even, lol.

Keep digging...

one month passes...

2. Tony Blair (who was with Gordon Brown last night at a Middle East summit! really!) should go and live in Baghdad. Why not? He likes the way things are going over there. It would be interesting to see how long he stayed alive. - Actually, to put it that last way is crude and nasty. I don't want him to die, and don't want him to be a martyr, etc. But it's kind of true that if he thinks Iraq is so much better now, he should try it for a while.
