gettin a bit touchy again latin? whats in a name? i'll stick to clocko diko especially for you!!!

clocko diko (honesttoafault), Thursday, 30 March 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

tough one wogan, tough indeed. tougher even than asking what is best album.

it always used to be Shawshank Redemption. its a classic, no thrills film. just a damn good story, excellent directing and 2 of the best acting performances ever. now thats saying something.

now i'm not sure though. maybe requiem for a dream, cos on so many different levels it excels far beyond other films.

clocko diko (honesttoafault), Thursday, 30 March 2006 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

I know it's not original but fuck it, I think it's the best film:
Donnie Darko

satan, Thursday, 30 March 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

haven't seen requiem for a dream. obviously donnie darko is up in my alltime top five... shawshank is by no means less than awesome.

I might have to say Spirited Away, but only cos I want a different answer to mr satan.

requiem for a dream - buy it. buy it now. ignore your bank balance and any other restrictions and just buy it. its a film like no other. its more intense than any film i've seen (although irreversible is pretty damn intense) and its layered with magic. the acting is immense, the story line is shocking, but the key to the film is in the direction. its visually stunning and compelling to watch, almost impossible to take your eyes off the screen even when the film dips into some real dark moments. and i mean dark.

Kung Fu Hustle is probably film of the year.
Also love Amelie and Cinema Paradiso as poss all-time faves.

City of God, Leon & Gladiator

Sab, Thursday, 30 March 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, city of god is fucking amazing. makes other so called 'action' movies seem like piles of steaming hot poo-poo.

however, gladiator is (in my opinion!!!) one of the worst films ever made. someone forgot to tell russell crowe to act, and generally show some expression. i felt robbed after paying to see it. all hype, no balls.

clocko diko (honesttoafault), Thursday, 30 March 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

Nooooooooo! Gladiator was good!!! Joaquin Phoenix was pretty hot in it 2.
Also forgot to add Pretty Woman....well i should be allowed at least one chick flick.

sab, Thursday, 30 March 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

i'm gonna sound well anal when i say this - but i honestly can't help myself - whether or not mr phoenix is fit has nothing to with the quality of gladiator, or indeed any film. sharon stone looked alright in basic instinct. however, its still a shit film.

kung fu hustle is amazing, but i think i enjoyed shaolin soccer even more! liz's other selections are awesome fuckin welles too.

city of god is ace. somehow in my mind i tell myself i don't really like leon because my sister used to sing that Sting song all out of tune all the time, but really it is a good film.

gladiator was good but it was out epicked by LOTR only a year or so later.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 30 March 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't like kung fu hussle very much, i read a review that said it was the tits but it just seemed quite dump, with loads of cg and predictable jokes. I really liked Gladiator when it came out and also The matrix, but I don't think you can watch them and get the same fun after the same time. That's why I like Donnie Darko, watched it tons of times, and still not bored of it. LOTR was good. Leon is a great film for a paedo flick.
and sharon stones vag was good in basic instinct, or as someone called it basic minge stink.

sates, Thursday, 30 March 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

I'm with Sates on Donnie Darko, great movie. City of Lost Children is pretty fantastic too. May have to go with the Big Lebowski as tops for me, but it's rough picking only one.

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Thursday, 30 March 2006 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

Titus. Every time. It has horrific violence show tunes alan cummings and the best exchange ever, viz.
-Villain what hast thou done?
-Something which I cannot undo
-Thou hast undone our mother
-Villain I have done thy mother
get in.

carrying on from the Bollywood theme.... Dil Se has to be one of the best. Another Shah Rukh classic.

Note the classic 'dancing on top of train' scene:
