Saw an exhibition on these at the American History Museum in DC. Apparently the dazzle was mostly used on pleasure cruise ships that were pressed into service cos of a navy deficit... because they were so lumbering and obvious, this was the only solution to confuse submarine periscopes... (and yeah, I was initially interested because of the OMD album, which also led me to buy "Organisation" for $4 from a small used record store in upstate New York last week...it's terrific!).
