American Punk Versus BritPunk:

This is the topic of my next blog entry, but first I wanted to bounce some ideas off of some of the great minds that inhabit ILX...
First of all let me say that I am in no way patriotic or nationalistic. SOme of my all-time favorite bands are from the UK; beatles, who, kinks, led zep, black sabbath, etc. But as far as punk goes, I'm pretty upset by the way Brits hijakced the genre and have tried to re-write history as if Punk was a British invention. The argument is that it was a marriage of glam and pubRock--or something like that. From my perspective, the sex pistols were an insult to punk. In fact most Britpunk was a watered-down, attention-whoring fiasco that occasionally--almost by mistake it seems--produced a good song or a good record.

I am new to this board because I thought it sounded cool but then I saw this thread and now, I am probably not going to go to this board anymore.

christopher scott knudsen, all I can say is that you should not be so easily defeated. This thread IS cool. Just give it time. Like a flower in the forest, it needs time to grow. But eventually the sunshine shall hit it, the rain will quench it, and the love will spread...
