Just tuning in to WK20 right now since I got off work early, and I'm already hyped seeing Baliyan Akki with Chris Brookes in the dome.

I'm ready to drink and cry for Tanahashi's retirement match.

Tanahashi vs Okada was everything I could have hoped for.

I haven't watched NJPW regularly in years, but I guess it makes sense to make Yota Tsuji the top guy. He's got something, maybe not a "carrying the company on his back for years" kind of something, but I found his young lions class to be fairly boring, so I guess he's the one you take your shot with.

Yota was always my favorite from his class, though they really tried to make Shota the next guy (I really do feel bad for him that it didn't take in the way they had hoped). I'm selfishly glad because it led to the Goto title reign that I had been wanting for years.

Yep, I didn't get the logic there either. For most of the past decade they've completely lost the plot when it comes to booking Rumbles. There's no story, it's just 1) somebody comes out and runs wild, 2) they get cut off, 3) everyone stands around and waits for the next entrant, 4) repeat. Especially in the women's Rumble.

That said, Liv winning was cool.

I'm not 100% sure how much pull/booking power Saudi Arabia has over WWE for a match like that. I know that there were stories of how they requested certain wrestlers who were retired/no longer alive for the first show they hosted.

The internet seems angry. A Hulk Hogan ad got more screen time than all women? Only 90 minutes of wrestling on a 4 hour show? A Tony Khan tweet seems to not have been met with disgust but people going “yeah ok maybe I should tune in”? Lmao it seems they have shit the bed.

Dynamite was an all timer. If you haven’t watched, it is worth your time. Maybe as good as the Raw where Mankind won the title… actually, fuck it, maybe better because this had Osprey v Hechicero.

I watched only the main event live. 74 minutes of commercials and 82 minutes of wrestling on a four hour show? That's horrendous. What was with all the short matches? I have no clue what the face/heel dynamic was supposed to be in the main event. And after two months of WWE doing everything they can to get Orton booed? The greatness of WM 39 and WM 40 feel like ancient history already.

As a person who has called themself "EVIL" for many years now (and whose favorite anime is Inu-Yasha), I love this.

Darby's run is an all timer and every Dynamite is gold at the moment. Weirdly I don't feel particularly interested in Double or Nothing though, bar Takeshita-Okada. I'm sure it will be wall to wall bangers but it also feels like a weird stop gap on the way to All In. I fear Forbidden Door may be this even more so, although maybe we get MJF-Mistico again, so kinda who cares?

AEW is having a year as good as there has been in wrestling. If they could sort out their women’s division, it could be an actually perfect show.

wasn't aware people had an opinion - he struck me as a gnat wrestler, a la enzo amore.

His new gimmick is a sight to behold. He is essentially wrestling Gollum. It is… a very left field choice.

His commitment to the bit is really impressive, even if I’m not personally sold on the character. Keeping up that kind of very specific persona for a whole match takes a lot of effort. I do wish AEW’d more consistent about how they’re selling it, though; commentary talks about him like he’s faking it (trying to suspend disbelief here, guys) and seeing him in a dress shirt and holding a colourful umbrella last week was far too incongruous.

Grant v. McMahon has been settled. Hope she took him to the cleaners but we’ll never know.

The first three matches on Redemption were boss. It fell off a bit after (the crowd were pin drop silent for a lot of the chain match). Unfortunately I am about to watch the painmaker next. Genuinely one of the worst gimmicks.

As much as people like the Bang Bang Gang, the Dogs have no heat.

Really liked the show overall. Some of the matches felt like ‘this could have been on Dynamite’ but one can argue that speaks to the quality of weekly TV on their current roll.

BBG have also had a patchy two years while Jay has been off. I adore them and think Jay White should be a future champ but it’ll take time to reheat them.

The child chanting for fire made the Painmaker bollocks worth it. I’ve tried to give Jericho another chance and it’s been ok but he needs to retire. (I wonder if they do a mega Canada show when it happens and have c&c go at the same time?)

I love Shida’s new bully character. They seem a bit rock and a hard place in the wimmins division but she’s so boo-able. Between Mercedes, Shida, Willow and Thelma, I think they have the basis to rebuild after a patchy year.

I know wrestling is a work and that they all turn out to be scumbags but god if I ever hear that Willow is anything but an angel, it will be worse than finding out Santa isn’t real. LOVED seeing the crowd react to her on Dynamite. That alone made the show a must see.

The only knock on Willow I’m aware of is tangential: she was in a tag team with Solo Darling, who was embroiled in that whole Quack/CHIKARA meltdown.

(I think Willow is brilliant, by the way; a real asset to the company inside and outside of the ring.)

You know who else is a treasure? Orange Cassidy. Seeing him rake ricochet’s bald head was great. His character never seems to get old.

I know lol tuna meltzer but Dave gave the women 5 stars and the will Kenny 6 1/2, calling it the second best match he’s ever seen. (He gave the 2nd okada-Kenny 7 stars iirc).

Having been there, I think it’s now my favourite match of all time. I haven’t felt as high as I did after the owa kick out since… well I’ve been sober nearly 4 years.

It was a great match, but the entrances pushed it over the top. Despite WWE's huge budgets and obsessions with "making moments", I can't think of the last time they pulled off that combination of "presentation" (entrances, atmosphere, crowd) and a great match. The El Grande Americano mask vs mask match had it, but that was in AAA, on the WWE main roster, I can't think of anything that compares.

He was straight up one of the most explosively spectacular wrestlers to ever do it. What an enormous loss

He had tons of amazing stuff, e.g with Generico and its evolution into the note-perfect Sami Zayn NXT feud. He seemingly translated his frustration at at McMahon then pissing his career up the wall for a few years into this amazing, convincingly nasty heel persona, despite his AOW appearance with Cabana detailing him being cripplingly shy and having basically no self-esteem despite how awesome he was

Horrible few weeks for his peers to go through, my heart really goes out to them. It's got to be tough pushing through the grind when so many shows are tribute shows you desperately wish you didn't have to do
