Are we watching Taboo Tuesday?

It's on Sky in the UK (I think this and Survivor Series will be the last free PPVS on Sky ever). It's been booked in that 'random on-the-fly headless chicken' style that they've been so fond of lately, so I assume it'll be a chaotic mess. Though on the other hand, they've probably decided who's going to 'win' each vote by now already so there might be some underlying logic.

Comedy turn of events: Shawn Michaels appears to have crocked himself on Raw and may be unable to compete in either match he would have ended up in, depriving us of the fifteenth pedigree/superkick/bleed on floor circle jerk in two years.

I'll be videoing it - actually I'm currently videoing the Raw on before it, while watching football instead. Not sure when I'll get around to watching it - might well be the weekend.

it was good though.. best PPV for a few months. omg that kane match!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It was sort of chaotic as expected, especially as I'm still assuming the Michaels injury was legit, and thus a pretty huge setback, but I think they worked the 'Bitter Edge' thing well, and Michaels sobbing on the mat begging Chioda not to stop the match was an oddly compelling image even though the match itself was limited.

It was nice to see the fans get behind Benoit in the tag title match. I felt sorry for him coming third in the voting.

The Flair three minute handshake thing seems odd as they're either going to have to carry on as if it never happened, have him do ANOTHER fake turn or actually have him become a face, which I don't think they want to do. Maybe they'll have Flair brush it off next week or something.

Kane getting totally squashed by Hilarious Evil Hamster Faced Jobber guy was bizarre - I wonder if he is leaving?

Snitsky is Sid 2004. But so what? Every generation needs one. Besides, he's more entertaining than Heidenreich and hasn't hurt half the workers.

There's rumours going around that Glen Jacobs is seeking a contract release... next mildly talented American bigman to run riot through Japan?

Chairman ROFLMAO (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 06:45 (twenty-one years ago)

that kane match was awesome.. i've been waiting for this kind of two-psychos-beating-the-shit-out-of-each-other thing for ages. that chair in the neck thing was done before but it was still like EUURRGWWWWWWWHH when you see it and the blood from the mouth.. was he really hurt omg! of course he was etc....

the chain was a pretty lame weapon though (it was too hard to fake a decent whip!)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

that evil man should have beaten the crap out of lita too, though. to add to the evilness

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Michaels is injured. He ripped up his knee during the sunset flip spot on RAW and needs surgery.
For this reason, the speculation going into the show was that Benoit would face HHH, and Shawn would be in the tag match where he wouldn't have to do much work. And Edge could turn on poor, injured Shawn -- instant mega-heel turn and insta-feud for when Shawn comes back.

I haven't seen the show yet, but the way it turned out seemed OK too. HHH looks like a pussy for needing Edge's help to beat a crippled man, but if he wants to book himself that way I guess it's his business (in every sense of the word).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

it's his game, or something.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is Glen Jacobs, Dom? Please remember most of us lack your depth of knowledge! Kane, I guess?

I thought it was poor - Michaels should have pulled out. The voting all, without exception, went exactly the way I thought it would - I don't really suspect rigging the figures, but they manipulated it on the last Raw the way they wanted (cf Shelton Benjamin), and anyway sometimes it was obvious from the options offered: I was surprised even 10% voted for an aerobics challenge, and I'd like to know how close to zero one or two of the IC challengers came. All the women's stuff was deeply terrible, especially the pillow fight. Possibly not as dull as the dodgeball of another recent PPV, admittedly, but as embarrassingly bad. Triple H is winning with huge help (Batista and Edge to beat someone who could hardly walk!) too often - they need to resestablish his quality with a big solo win or two. He's still good enough to carry that easily, as he has so often before.

With Flair, I wonder if they are thinking of turning him into a face in time for retirement from actual regularish wrestling?

I was surprised by the Kane match - he seemed to offer surprisingly little for someone who does a good job of seeming almost unstoppable most of the time. I thought Snitsky was probably on a one-month contract, but maybe this story has proved popular enough to drag it out another month or so.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 21 October 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

a friend of mine who happens to be king of the smart marks was convinced they only brought in snitsky so kane could 'kill' him. sounds like a sweet idea to me, but unfortunately its just OVW push #8349823984239. when are they gonna teach these OVW bastards a thing about offense?

still bevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 21 October 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

OVW? Yeah, I thought that plot would end at TT with Snitsky apparently seriously injured/hospitalised and out of the game. I still think it will all end that way - there is surely no keeping Snitsky, is there?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Im sure they'll push him to the moon. they did it with a one legged man and a retard. surely they can do it for a jobber.

this is cliched and obnoxious, but ive just about had it with the wwe. i tuned into raw at a couple intervals on monday and tuned it out quickly after carmella v. christy and some crap involving eugene and bischoff. i can stand the awful angles and that kinda stuff because its par for the course, but the matches have been pretty f'n bad. most of which i attribute to ovw syndrome and the 'wwe style' of spot wrestling. i guess those benoit/eddie/michaels dvd's have an upside and a downside..

still bevens (bscrubbins), Friday, 22 October 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone tell me what OVW stands for, please?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 22 October 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Ohio Valley Wrestling, WWE's main feeder league, run by James E Cornette.

Chairman ROFLMAO (Dom Passantino), Friday, 22 October 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, okay - that hasn't reached here at all, and I hadn't even heard of it. I remember Jim Cornette, of course. Does he still carry the racket?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 22 October 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep. And the grudge against Paul Heyman.

Chairman ROFLMAO (Dom Passantino), Friday, 22 October 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I know nothing about that grudge - my wrestling watching over the years has been on and off.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 23 October 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Cornette has some beef with Heyman because he wasnt down with the whole concept of ECW and hardcore and that kind of stuff. Which has some merit, but I hardly think that down home southen wrestling with by the numbers offense and low impact mat wrestling is the solution.

still bevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I can see why Cornette would hate people regularly hitting others with foreign objects...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Cornette's down-home southern style is great for teaching wrestlers the basics.
But basics/shmasics, Vince just pushes the big guys anyway. Heidenreich's been back and forth to OVW, and I doubt he knows the basics too well.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I assume 'do not maim other wrestlers in the ring' is one of the basics, so no
