WWE BLOODLETTING

So far the WWE has fired:

Billy Gunn (Tuesday)
Test (Tuesday)
A-Train (Tuesday)
Gail Kim (Wednesday)
Nidia (Wednesday)
Chuck Palumbo (Wednesday)
Rodney Mack (Thursday)
Jazz (Thursday)
Johnny The Bull (Thursday)
Rico (Thursday)

So what is this all about? Cleaning house for balace sheet reasons? Clearing house in order to make funds available for a big name signing (or re-signing?)

Subquestion: What kind of talent does the WWE have in development now anyways?

still bevens (bscrubbins), Friday, 5 November 2004 19:36 (twenty years ago)

Only two of these look like mistakes - I thought Gail Kim was probably the best female wrestler they had, and the sexiest too. And Rico was always good value. I didn't realise Test was still around, and only noticed Rodney Mack first when he was on the IC title ballot for Taboo Tuesday. I'm a bit sorry about Billy Gunn too, who I like well enough, but haven't seen a lot of him or A-Train in months. Don't tell me they are firing the two-thirds of the FBI who look reasonably good in the ring, and not the joke one?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 5 November 2004 21:04 (twenty years ago)

Tuesday firings: "Shane McMahon for some reason saw potential in us, h was wrong)
Wednesday firings: "We really shouldn't have let Daffney go"
Thursday firings: "Did we ever sign Reno, I forget?"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 5 November 2004 22:28 (twenty years ago)

So much for "pushing" the women's division. Why would they get rid of Jazz? Rodney Mack and Jazz are married IRL, so maybe they felt they couldn't keep her and not him (since he is basically useless).

I feel bad for Rico. He's a very capable wrestler who got stuck with loads of bad gimmicks. He took what he was given, ran with it to the best of his ability, and even got over with the shit material they gave him. He's a bit old, though (42, I think), so perhaps that had something to do with it.

Word is that they're clearing out these guys to make room for fresh OVW callups. So letting these guys go looks like it's mainly a money issue.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 6 November 2004 05:57 (twenty years ago)

So which ones are turning up in TNA in 90 days time then? I'm guessing Billy Gunn and Test are guarantees, Johnny the Bull is also going to be turning up on every major indie card from now until forever as well.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 6 November 2004 10:17 (twenty years ago)

Billy Gunn is probably a lock for TNA. Test had the same neck surgery that Benoit, Edge, et al had, so it'll be several months until he can wrestle again. Supposedly the WWE said for him to call them again when he's healthy, so maybe he'll be back.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 6 November 2004 16:41 (twenty years ago)

Get ready for BIG BOOTS and PUMPHANDLE SLAMS

Is Nunzio the only FBI one they didn't fire? Cos he's totally the best one.

I think fireing albert was a mistake

lukey (Lukey G), Sunday, 7 November 2004 11:29 (twenty years ago)

I would love to hear your rationalisation for that.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 7 November 2004 22:21 (twenty years ago)

We'll never get to find out if he will actually shave his back

MC Transmaniacon (natepatrin), Monday, 8 November 2004 02:01 (twenty years ago)

Albert being fired = anti-Semitism.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 8 November 2004 07:28 (twenty years ago)

I just think that albeert was a character

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 8 November 2004 10:00 (twenty years ago)

They tried to push him up the roster a few years ago, but it never really took. The constant name and image and alliance changes haven't helped establish him at all.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 8 November 2004 12:44 (twenty years ago)

Albert being fired = anti-Semitism.
hahaha, I think Kidman is the only Jew left on the active roster.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:42 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
So can anyone justify hiring all the no talent cast-off skanks from the diva search to fill the gaps in the rosters?

Dude, are you a 15 year old asian chick? (jingleberries), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

Vince McMahon's justification = the more hot chicks on WWE TV, the better

(that is a serious answer, btw)

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 29 January 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
hahaha, I think Kidman is the only Jew left on the active roster.

Dude, Kane!

We should do Wrestling Jews: S/D at some point.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 21 February 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

four months pass...
THE BLOODENING PART 2:

Mordecai
Spike Dudley
Maven
Mark Jindrak
Billy Kidman
Akio
Shannon Moore
Gangrel

My heart will go on..

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

ALL OF THOSE WRESTLERS HAD GREAT UPSIDES AND COULD HAVE GONE ON TO DO GREAT THINGS.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

Really, what was the point of signing Gangrel for, like, three months? April Fools?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

Also gone - Bubba Ray & D-Von, Dawn Marie, Miss Jackie, Charlie Haas, Marty Jannetty and Matt Morgan.

They've signed Big Vito though.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

And possibly Lesnar..

The only big loss seems to be Haas. I havent watched Smackdown much recently so I could be wrong. Letting the Dudleys go was probably a smart move too. Theyve done everything they could possibly do, and probably carried a big price tag too.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

The Dudleys must be the quickest ever gap between headling a PPV and being fired.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

Is it me, or are they cutting mostly Smackdown (Velocity) peeps here? We all know RAW > Smackdown, but are they trying to make HeAT the superior B-show now too?

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

Kenzo Suzuki has gone as well. No longer shall we hear him do "Crazy In Love" in a funny foreigner accent.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

Also, "Meltzer says to expect 8-10 more, so the bloodletting isn't done yet" (SK), so here are my predictions about real-life people losing their jobs:

Tomko, Grenier, Dupree, Venis, Victoria, Stevie Richards, Simon Dean and um, Tajiri.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know what you guys are getting upset about. Diva Search II has started, so that makes eight new hires. The size of the WWE roster isn't changing.

VINCE IS ANE EVLE GENIUSE.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

The obvious ones seem to be Tomko, Grenier and The Bashams, who got split in the draft thus handily removing their raison d'etre.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

So does Vince K still see teh sex as the route back to riches for WWE?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think anyone here is really getting upset over any of the releases. I'd also like to believe that no one here gets upset over wrestling.

Oh yeah, Nunzio is so gone.

xpost: it's more the reality show thing, I think, what with the Diva Search, Tough Enough, Hogan... I think they've perfected the formula this time around: dumber girls, humiliation potential factor upped.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

I am piecing together a multi-part Charlie Haas avatar complete with profound slogan and preparing to make 581 posts about what an outrage it is on his message board right now.

Stevie Richards is presumably safe for a bit because of this bWo thing that's just started, I'd assume. Rosey ought to go; surely Simon Dean already has?

Michael Philip Philip Philip Avoidant (Ferg), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 20:37 (nineteen years ago)

How the fuck has Scotty II Hotty survived this long?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

Also, the real saviour of the WWE = MEXICOOL

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

Nunzio's apparently safe, cos Big Vito will be tagging with him. Rosey's half of the tag team champs so he must be staying, and Simon Dean will be saved by the bWo thing too. Scotty will probably stay because he's a fairly over jobber type (see also Val Venis, Funaki), and they can always do with having people for Chris Masters to beat up.

Thinking about it, Rob Conway must be looking over his shoulder too.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:17 (nineteen years ago)

The Dudleys must be the quickest ever gap between headling a PPV and being fired.

SID?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

God bless the wee man.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:19 (nineteen years ago)

Who's the "future" WWE superstar that injured Spike?

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Thursday, 7 July 2005 02:12 (nineteen years ago)

Spike has been the ragdoll for many a "big man" that Vince wanted to push ... I don't think Spike was referring to any one person.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 7 July 2005 02:53 (nineteen years ago)

I woke up in a cold sweat last night realising that Bob Holly still has a job - am I right in this?

Michael Philip Philip Philip Avoidant (Ferg), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

Wave goodbye to James E Cornette, who'll be fellating bananas on the independant scene from now on.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 8 July 2005 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

Cornette's always had issues with the McMahons, and I guess this slapping incident presented the perfect excuse to fire him. Maybe Lance Storm will take over OVW, which would be a very smart move on the WWE's part.

Still, you have to wonder about Cornette (given his key role within the WWE organization) getting canned for slapping some kid around, while Bob Holly and JBL get away with that stuff all the time and manage to not only keep their jobs, but barely get punished.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 8 July 2005 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

It's because Cornette will never draw money for the WWE whilst Bob Holly oh wait.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 8 July 2005 16:12 (nineteen years ago)
