Wrestling Dead Pool 2005

Dom's running the ILE dead pool, but it might be fun to do one just for wrestlers. (I will probably pick about two wrestlers for the ILE pool).

Since there aren't too many of us here, this doesn't have to be as formal as the ILE one. We can post our ten picks on this thread.

John Tenta should be ineligible. I'm not clear whether Steve Williams should be. If we're allowing them then leave off Zenk and Holly.

Ok, uh.

1. Jake Roberts
2. Bob Holly
3. Hulk Hogan
4. Harley Race
5. Dusty Rhodes
6. Tom Zenk
7. Animal
8. Ron Simmons
9. Bobby Heenan
10.Brian Lee

For the most part I haven't consulted with a great deal of empirical evidence regarding drug and alcohol intake, I'm just holding my finger to my head and trying to picture the half-assed message of condolence on WWE.com.

I don't know why I left Tenta off my ILE ballot. Perhaps I would have felt bad about stealing him from Dom since I may not have remembered his illness otherwise.

Also, it's probably a good idea to follow the rules a la the dead pool at 1ryderfakin, i.e. this should be a "death by misadventure" list, while discounting anyone who might die from an age-related illness. So, people like Lou Thesz and Stu Hart would have been ineligible (a couple of years ago), as is someone like Fabulous Moolah.

We can use our judgement re: "dying young". I think Ferg's picks are all fine in this respect.

Discounting Dr. Death and Tenta, (and not listing these in any order as per the ILE rules)

Jake Roberts
Joanie Laurer
Scott Hall
Bobby Heenan
Jeff Hardy
Lex Luger
New Jack
Scott Steiner
Dustin Rhodes

and finally, I hate to write this one, but ...

Vince McMahon

I've not got a finalised team yet, but I do fancy "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valliant to go this year.

Isn't he old, though?

two weeks pass...
I'm starting to feel good about my Joanie Laurer pick, both here and on the ILE pool. Check out this picture from Scott Keith's blog (scroll down a few posts).

"I was afraid for myself. There's no way I could touch her. She's 230 [pounds], 6 [foot] 2, she knows how to box, she's a southpaw, and she's a pro wrestler. There's no way I could go near her. She'd kill me."

Yeah, you got to watch thse southpaws. When you marry a wrestling girl, do they make you go to Announcer School first?

Matt Hardy's going before Nicole Bass. The self-inflicted bullet wound to the skull shall become a symbol.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)
