what were the classic submission holds that make you grimace at the sight?

what were the ones that were K-LAME?

i liked the sharpshooter a lot. the corba clutch is punishing looking when done by a massive guy - but more as a wearing down move rather than an actual submission thing.

i still don't understand how the crippler crossface (or crossface chickenwing) would be so devastatingly painful.

the sleeper hold can fuck off.

I'm out of date when it comes to Japan, but they're the masters when it comes to submissions. I love Kawada's stretch plum, and Nagata's array of Nagata locks (actually, I believe it was Nagata Lock III that was invented by Mike Bucci aka Simon Dean, so we may get to see this in the WWE).

The Indian deathlock into a bridge with a neck vice is damned cool, it's been used a couple of times in the WWE, most memorably (for me) by HHH against Benoit at No Mercy 2000.

Jericho's Liontamer (Walls of Jericho) looks amazing when used on a smaller, flexible opponent, but against larger opponents in the WWE it looks like a dumbass Boston Crab. Edge has the same problem with his submission move (I think it's called the Edgecution).

Benoit used to apply the crossface a lot stiffer in WCW.

Benoit's use of the Liontamer in Japan looks like it should kill a man.

There is no excuse why the Steiner Recliner should look so lame when a camel clutch actually hurts like hell (my little brother tried it on me when we were kids) and Scott Steiner is so huge.

In recent years, Steiner wouldn't even apply it properly -- he'd just put on a reverse chinlock. This might also have something to do with the flexibility of his opponents.

Tajiri's rope-assisted tarantula. The only time I've ever been literally speechless at a submission hold.

Also, for sheer markout value, when Flair does his strut before locking the figure-four on.

Destroy: the Rock's sharpshooter. Nearly as bad as his DDT.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 6 January 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

the tarantula is amazing! except for the fact that no one ever submits from it cos its illegality :\

Just like Bret Hart's figure-four around the ringpost.

Jericho doesnt even bother applying the walls the way he used to. Nowadays it IS a shitty boston crab.

destroy: the spinning toe hold. are you shitting me?

Is there a wrestling moves illustrated guide anywhere online? Cos I can't remember if the Mexican Surfboard Stretch is awesome or dud.

Surfboard = awesome!

Remember the face The Rock used to pull when he did his version of the Crossface during his Benoit feud in... 2000? 2001? Whenever, that was some funny shit.

The Torture Rack was a really bad move wasn't it? impressive, sure, but pain?? perhaps a larger man would have made it look more painful.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 9 January 2005 02:43 (twenty years ago)

The Stretch Muffler aka Brock Lock when Lesnar used it, is pretty painful looking.
