I've used apricot seeds in cooking before but I really wanna taste the Pekea nut and the "paradise nut"

I'm a sucker for fat, gimme macadamia every time in this list (they are all good-to-great except brazil nuts which are bitter and bad)

I’m the exact opposite! Good black walnuts by the handful for snacking, but pistachios in baked goods.

walnuts are weird because in theory I like them but one in ten is somehow disgusting and even the good ones make my mouth feel dry and wrong

For years I avoided walnuts due to childhood memories of them tasting unpleasantly bitter. Later discovered that what I'd had back then were probably rancid... love them now.

Poll: Nuts

I've only recently learned that almonds MUST be roasted, in which case they're god-tier.

Walnuts are super-versatile, eating them raw or in bakes (or even savory dishes).

Cashews are a staple for vegan cooking/baking, and I do like how sweet they are.

1. Almonds - with skin, roasted 15 mins in the oven, no salt. No competition.
2. Piemont hazelnuts
3. Peanuts - with skin, no salt. Alternative: fresh ones, cooked in water. Also peanut butter obviously, the artisanal type, preferably from Africa.

I really like Pecan and Brazil but they're not for daily consumption. I mean, they're really healthy, but good in small portions.

I had a hard time choosing between pistachio and pecan. I voted pecan but it could have gone either way, really.

I once did a huge splurge at the farmers' market and got a jar of pistachio butter and a jar of these insanely delicious nectarine preserves with vanilla bean. This made for a breathtakingly delicious and expensive PB&J.

I don't have a bad word to say about any nuts.

Nothing has changed in the last 14 years.

shelled roasted peanuts/groundnuts/monkey nuts are a very nice and cheap variety of nut, but make a hell of mess. When I vac up there always bits of shell that have been walked all over the house. I love Cashews, but too fucking expensive these days. Love Almonds but I don't have a dentist at the moment and worry that they might be chewy enough to break my dodgy old dental crown. Non-salted Pistachios for me, because the salted ones are too much.

They are mentioned on the old thread but I must enter into the renewed conversation Marcona almonds, which to me are an entire nut of their own, mostly because they are god tier whereas regular almonds need to be prepared properly otherwise they are gross

I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy, because she used to say, "Harlan Pepper, if you don't stop naming nuts," and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that's what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start yelling. I'd say, "Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut." That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, "Would you stop naming nuts!" And Hubert used to be able to make the sound, he couldn't talk, but he'd go "rrrawr rrawr" and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it's also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut.

My favorite of that monologue, though is an outtake where he’s pointing out landmarks in his area and drives past a hill. He points to it and says “that hill is haunted”. Then a couple minutes later he points to a different hill and says “that hill is haunted too.l
