I eventually tucked into them on Saturday, and they delivered exactly what they promised. Definitely liver and kidney in there, but I suspect some other offal along with the meat. A beautiful, almost pate-like consistency. Sheer nectar.
I suffer a bit from gout, and expected to pay for them the following day, rich as they were. What I didn't expect was for it to attack almost immediately, which I would have thought was medically impossible. But gout it was. My leg started to swell visibly, and I had to elevate it on the footstool. Had it been swarthed in bandages and I wearing a powdered wig and with a yappy dog at my good leg, I would have been the image of the stereotypical Hogarthian gout sufferer. And by thunder, it was agony.
Will it stop me buying more of these faggots next time I pass? No.
What does anyone else eat despite clear medical reasons why they shouldn't?

However this morning I get up for early shift and eat a scone (wheat!) around 4 AM. When I roll into the office I am beset by a FIERY FURY THAT WILL NOT ABATE. I have never had heartburn this painful, esp in the morning while I'm vertical/mobile.
And now I'm going to eat another scone.

I've heard that sour cherries are supposed to ward off the gout.

Teeny - there are some heartburn remedies you can take when you are pregnant. Also try peppermint tea.
Chatting to a doctor (not an appointment, just a friendly chat) it appears that I don't have the syptoms of an MSG allergy, more of just the way my body reacts to strong flavours. The thing is, it can last for 4 hours (facial flushing & sweating, coupled with tingling lips & mouth) & seems to have come on suddenly. hmph!

For gallstones drink 2 cups of extra virgin olive oil and lay on your right side.... gall bladder down. The olive oil will flood into your gall bladder and help to ease the passing of any stones that are small enough to not require surgery.
STAY CLOSE TO THE BATHROOM ! ! ! !
I cannot stress this point enough..... you will suddenly need the bathroom RIGHT NOW!!! It may take 15 minutes or it could take several hours but it WILL HAPPEN.
The olive oil will pass harmlessly thru your system as well as flushing out any stones and emptying the bile from your gall bladder.
I have not had the pleasure of gallstones but my Father in law did (note the past tense) He did this and it completely cleared up his problem. (nasty greasy green slime was his description of the after effects of this treatment)

I dunno... I might just get an ultrasound to start with ;)

The sudden ingestion of the massive amount of liquid fat forces the gall bladder to empty plus the lubrication from the oil helps the stuck stones to slide right on out.
Sure, there may be temporary mild discomfort, but figuring the alternative of continued constant pain or surgery...... or if you are lucky your Dr. may use ultrasound to bust up the jagged stones into many smaller even more jagged pieces to let them pass........
It's just a suggestion but it does work if the stones aren't too big.

There is a lot of information on the web, such as About, but you have to keep in mind that anyone can post anything they like on-line, so really your best resource will be medical professionals.

^^^^^ Looking forward to hobbling through a long bar shift tonight. But I had about a day of warning signs, long enough to get my indomethacin refilled yesterday while I was getting a strep test. So the toe felt broken this morning but just feels badly stubbed now. Ha, fuck you gout!

had my first occurrence of a flareup switching feet - it's affected both feet individually in the past, but never resolved in one only to appear in the other until this week.
probably need to get my doctor to prescribe me something long term, it's just a pain in the ass having to pay an expensive deductible only to have a 30 minute consult where they go "ok, you want this drug? cool, wrote the script". but y'know, a necessary one. just have to find a copy of where it was diagnosed years ago.
what home remedies work, in the interim? I've heard everything from NSAIDs, to vitamin C, to just drinking a shit ton of water, etc....on top of, of course, cutting back on rich meat/not drinking alcohol. i have a topical steroid for inflammation I can use as well in the time being.

actual pain is gone, swelling not so much....you can tell looking at my feet side by side that my big toe is still inflamed, just not enough to stop me from walking.
contacted doc to see about allopurinol because frankly I don't know why we should wait for my gout to get worse before we treat it. happy to be able to walk again though
