This thread is going to make me hungry...

I'm cheating now, because I didn't make this, my friend S did. But that IS my husband looking on in the background:

Wow!

Few things more comforting than corned beef hash..

Except maybe corned beef hash with a (wonky) fried egg on top...

I should know better than look in here before lunch!

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 17 October 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

I should take a picture of my Pop Tart.

A quiche I made some time back, just before it was popped in the oven to bake. Roast capsicum, onion, spinach and mushroom, I think it was.

Archel, what the hell is that?

I will be back at some point with pictures of our homemade egg/artichoke heart/olive pizza and shrimp po' boys.

Gigantic toasted marshmallow!

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

Wow! Amazing fun shots everyone! Robster, so sincerely wishing I had that egg and hash now, looks beyond yum . Trayce your quiche too. And that amazing THING upthere, it is a cheese souffle on steroids or something...wow! I made a pork loin roast last weekend which I will post soon. I love playing w/my digital camera in the kitchen now. It makes me happy!!

Yum yum home-made bread.

Cor, that looks good. Is it the enormoloaf from N. Slater, which I can see in the background?

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 20 October 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

Pretty much but with half the quantities of flour/yeast/water/salt that were in the Slater Megaloaf. Turned out lovely and not as heavy as previous breads wot I made.

robster (robster), Thursday, 20 October 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

hehe it slightly reminds me of the gigantic loaf Felicity Kendall produced from the Aga in The Good Life.

And yes, that is indeed an cheese souffle which got rather over-excited.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 20 October 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

I made the biggun once, but now halve everything too because it almost scraped the ceiling of my oven.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 20 October 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

The picture may not do it justice, but I just improvised a fantastic nut roast if I do say so myself (though inspired by Helen from the lovely Veggie Cookbook list).

Ingredients: mixed nuts, breadcrumbs (no! ryvita crumbs because I'd run out of bread), stewed apple, red wine, mushrooms, garlic, onion, thyme, rosemary, black pepper.)

COOKIES.

Not very Christmassy, though, because I kinda suck that way.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 23 December 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

I've changed my mind. They are secular "holiday" cookies.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 23 December 2005 01:08 (twenty years ago)

I don't know about that - doesn't holiday come from "holy day"? ;)

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 23 December 2005 01:16 (twenty years ago)

But, wow! You made a lot of different ones! We are lame and bought some from the bakery tonight.

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 23 December 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

I was going to send them to far-flung relatives for my pathetic attempt at a holiday gift, but it doesn't seem to have happened. But that is one reason why I made several different ones. The other is, you know, to see which ones would be good.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 23 December 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

So - which ones are good? They all look very good.

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 23 December 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

Especially that gingery looking one with the artistic white drizzle. And the jammy one in the middle there.

Jaq (Jaq), Friday, 23 December 2005 03:46 (twenty years ago)

The best one, per my tongue, is the molasses spice one that doesn't have the rum frosting, despite the rum frosting being pretty good and oh so stylin'. The jam one in the middle is fine, who can complain about jam sammich cookies? I wish I had the bigger sugar crystals to put on it though. I couldn't even find them at the store. The square cardamom shortbread cookie is very nice. The lumpy Italian rummed raisin cookie is probably the one you don't really want -- it's all wrong, lemony and summery and just not what you're looking for in a secular unholiday cookie. The other two are from my Jewish baking book, and are sneaking in. The one with almonds sprinkled on it is actually made with rice flour and has a curious and light taste, with some rose water in it. The last one (at two o'clock) is an almond sesame cookie, and it's also light and fine.

I do still want to pump out a few more tomorrow. Plus I got some food coloring so there might be some red and green splashes, who knows!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 23 December 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

I think I must be the only ilXor who doesn't 'get' cookies. I think they're OK, but I don't lust after them like most people seem to.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

No, I'm with you on that, aldo. I like macaroons okay, but in general, cookies are not on my radar.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

There are a lot of worthless cookies out there.
