sure you cook, but what do you crave?

I am desperately craving a Sonic foot-long chili cheese dog. And tots and a Route 66 limeade. I have been for MONTHS! But tonight we leave this Sonic-less state for the open road, through 4 states that are home to my red-roofed fast-food mecca: Idaho, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. I fully expect to satiate this cheese dog monkey on my back.

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

(ps. I was craving the ripe cherry taste and "old gold" chocolate of the elusive Cherry Ripe, but you hooked me up to an excellent source! And now, Mr. Jaq is hooked on Tim Tams.)

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

omg! ive been craving tim tams too. did you try the fudge ones?

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

I just got the original ones. Are they fudge? Very lovely chocolateness. My god, are they ever good!

Jaq (Jaq), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

swedish fish. i don't really eat sugar anymore, but if i did i could plow through a bag of those. and when i'm in the uk, i always crave american movie theatre popcorn.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

also on the sugar tip: ambrosia custard and tapioca pudding.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

lauren, i saw a box of swedish fish for the first time ever while i was in walgreens yesterday afternoon. it kind of made me do a double take. i couldnt tell if the fish looked saucy or angry.

jaq, i was a devotee of the original (i mean caramel?? black forest?? latte?? i dont think so.) until I tasted the chewy choc fudge variety. seems you can improve on perfection.

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

I could kill for Indian food right now. Specifically rogan josh but quite a number of other options would suffice.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

on the savory side of things, i tend to crave mexican quite often.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

Softshell crabs, which are impossible to find on this side of the Atlantic -- although I think I've found a source for hardshell blue crabs in Vienna (they're Nigerian crabs, but the same species as the Chesapeake ones) -- I don't know yet whether I can get them alive.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

I crave the shittest food, mostly KFC.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 11 May 2006 09:14 (nineteen years ago)

I had a momentary but fierce craving for lemon meringue pie yesterday, which is odd because I don't really like it. Occasionally it's McDonalds milkshakes, which is a craving that, knowing what's in them, I try not to fulfil.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 11 May 2006 09:45 (nineteen years ago)

Fish and/or chips. By the sea.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 11 May 2006 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

I was craving tablet, till I made some.

I am also craving small bivalve type seafood (cockles, winkles etc) but ATP is sufficiently late this year I should manage to satisfy that craving tomorrow or Saturday at the latest.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 11 May 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

My old room mate from when I lived in Italy just emailed me and now I am really, really craving a double cone with a dead sharp limone on one side and sweet, pink lampone on the other.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 11 May 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

fried foods! damn! fry me up something like battered mushrooms, or onion rings and i'd be smiling. or korean food, maybe.

jdchurchill (jdchurchill), Thursday, 11 May 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

battered mushrooms with creamy horseradish dip, yeah...

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 11 May 2006 22:13 (nineteen years ago)

Right now I'd happily beat somone up for a BLT

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 11 May 2006 23:13 (nineteen years ago)

(some time later)

Dammit - I just went and ate them fish and chips - the chips were a bit bland but the fish was top notch. Now I want it again.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Friday, 12 May 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

We scoped all the Sonics in the 1350 miles from here to Flagstaff, and managed to stop at 2 during the 39 hours of actual driving there and back. Extra-long chili cheese dog, tots, medium limeade - mmmmmmmm!!!

And now we know where they all are for the trip in 2 weeks.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 15 May 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

hahahaha, Jaq you krazy.

The Jazz Guide to Penguins on Compact Disc (Rock Hardy), Monday, 15 May 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

Haha! As Mr. Jaq says "Now you know when that craving hits, there's a Sonic only SEVEN HOURS away."

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 15 May 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

i had sonic for breakfast this morning - breakfast bistro sandwich + medium coke. gold. its the first time ive been to the crazy new sonic where you eat in or drive thru. no carhopping.

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

i havent been inside but pleasant plains reports there are telephones at each table that you use to order.

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

No carhops, no credibility! I like the new cardswipers-at-the-intercoms feature.

The Jazz Guide to Penguins on Compact Disc (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

Breakfast! I did not know this! Something new to try. I wonder if they will make me tots first thing in the am; they are a hash brown equivalent.

We need the eat outside feature this trip, as we are traveling with a dog. There were carhops on skates at the one in Kingman AZ! And card-swipers! The one in St. George, UT was behind the curve on that.

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

FULL MENU AVAILABLE ALL DAY
(they claim)

The Jazz Guide to Penguins on Compact Disc (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

My mind is boggling at the thought of an extra-long chili cheese dog for BREAKFAST!!! :))) Or - BLT!

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

Would this be like me dreaming of a breakfast of broiled eel and miso soup from Blue C?

...okay, I just visualized a conveyor-belt Sonic and felt a bit lightheaded.

The Jazz Guide to Penguins on Compact Disc (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:17 (nineteen years ago)

oh dear. I would totally eat at a kai-ten Sonic.

Mmmmm - sushi....

Jaq (Jaq), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

i looked at a box today. rather than "saucy" or "angry," i'm going with "stoned."

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:57 (nineteen years ago)

ill have to take another look at the box but for now:

new? what is happening on the east bank? did the bridges fall down? we've had swipers for 2 years or so.

jaq, rock is right. full menu all day. ive had the breakfast bistro at 10pm a couple of times. also, all breakfast combo meals come with tots and a dainty mint.

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

we R slo and dum down here. They're just now starting to retrofit the local Sonics with swipers. The only one I've actually been to with swipers is a brand new one near Tupelo.

all breakfast combo meals come with tots and a dainty mint.

It's wafer thin.

The Jazz Guide to Penguins on Compact Disc (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

Today I craved tuna salad. I just finished my third sandwich.

The Jazz Guide to Penguins on Compact Disc (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

i bought my ticket back to australia for xmas 06 last week and now all i can think about is the yummy, but bad for me, food im going to eat when i get there. heres my list so far:

1. a store made pavlova. my pavs are ok but you cant beat a pavlova pantry or cheesecake shop pavlova. tall, crunchy and fluffy!

2. waxless chocolate. whats with the wax americanos?

3. a pineapple smoothie from a coffee shop near the georges river. ive tried to work out their recipe for years. the closest i can get is 80% heavy cream 20% pineapple.

4. vanilla slice

5. a nth sydney hottie c

6. pumpkin soup

7. one big fat lobster mornay. seafood on the north side of the pacific tastes weird.

Since I had one for the first time yesterday, I am now craving teh Dairy Milk Creme Egg Bar. Mein Gott!

Mädchen (Madchen), Friday, 19 May 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

my friend was going to bring me some of those, but in the end i asked her not to. i don't trust myself.

Those are good? I keep eyeing the ads on the machines in the tube stations; I can't decide if I'm totally intrigued or totally grossed out.

gooblar (gooblar), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

Believe me, they are most definitely good.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:18 (nineteen years ago)

We are heading out to Sonicland again on Sunday. I have been plotting all potential chili-cheesedog stops. Since we are driving back on the desolate (and Sonicless) Great Basin highway, I'm trying for a minimum of 4, over Sunday and Monday (though Tuesday lunch is also a distinct possibility).

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

Add some onion rings to the mix!
