The future of ILCooking

If ILX dies, do we want to continue this elsewhere? I know I've found lots of useful things in here that I've used.

I know some of you use LJ for Other Place, is that the best plan?

please, anything but LJ, I'm not a goth and I try to dress well

If it comes to it, I'll start I Love Cooking up on my own servers. I can't commit to hosting all of ILX unfortunately, but I can easily manage several smaller boards. I'll have a prototype up this weekend to play with.

The big thing would be snagging all the existing threads - I think that can be done.

But, yes I'd like this to continue, not on LJ though.

i'd love for it to carry on as well. i don't post all the time, but i always read and i'd be a bit sad if it ceased to exist.

What Lauren said.

I read too! And would miss it if it were gone, even if I don't post a lot.

Yay Jaq! It's interesting watching some of the other boards, making arrangements or not, depending.

I thought it was probably down to one of us mods bringing it up...

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

("LJ for Other Place"?)

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

bless you Jaq

ps recommendation for cookbook - modern Spanish cooking by Sam and Eddie Hart - we ate at their reastaurant the other night and it was tremendous

("LJ for Other Place"?)

After the last great ILE schism a lot of regulars moved to something they refer to as 'Other Place' (or at least that's what I've heard a couple of them call it) while still dipping in here only sometimes, which is a LiveJournal board.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 10 August 2006 08:14 (nineteen years ago)

I'm no longer current on which ILE schisms are considered great.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

Those involved in them consider them great, I suspect.

Jaq, that would be marvellous if you could. I couldn't give a monkeys about ILE any more but ILCook (and ILBooks, for that matter) are still regular visits for me.

Do we care if it looks exactly like this? I'm all for as simple an interface as possible, avatar- and sig-less, but I'm also all for exploring existing solutions like phpBB, Zorum, and SMF vs. fully rolling my own.

I've scoped pulling all the existing messages from here - it's manageable.

My sentiments exactly. I probably enjoy this board the most out of all the current ilx-hosted boards.

GILLY'S BAGG'EAR VANCE OF COUPARI (Ex Leon), Thursday, 10 August 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

PunBB is supposed to be an excellent simpler alternative to phpBB.

Paul Eater (eater), Thursday, 10 August 2006 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks Paul, I'll play with that one instead. Small, light, and GNU.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 10 August 2006 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

I'm playing with an ILX-like contingency at http://www.teqne.com/ilx/index.php

Paul, PunBB is fun stuff; thanks for mentioning it. Anyway, if things fall apart here, you are welcome to post there for the duration. With luck though, ILX will transition seamlessly over to new hosting and then to new code.
