O frabjuous day! I've been looking for a magnetic knife rack that attaches magnetically to a steel surface (ie, the side of the fridge) and have only been able to find screw-in ones... BUT...I wrote the manufacturer directly and I can order from the source! Is anyone else interested? My mom and I have both been searching kitchen specialty stores for years with no results, so take advantage of this ONE-TIME OFFER! (Not really, I can email anyone the ordering form, but there IS a $30 minimum so it makes sense to order multiples.)

I hate taking up counter space w/ knife blocks and my roommates have a habit of sticking my knives POINT DOWN into the utensil jar, which OMG DO THEY WANT TO DIE? so an elegant solution is in order, and the whole work area of the kitch has tile backsplash = no screws allowed. Finally got the product number off the package from the screw model and wrote to the company (Bidwell Industries, or something like that). Et voila!

i didn't even know they existed!

I am paranoid about knife magnets. But I am probably unreasonable about this. Still, what if all of a sudden the earth switched polarity while you were standing near it? Or, uh, something?

I like knives in sheaths in a drawer, because it makes it easy to grab them and go if you're heading off to cook elsewhere. Also I have way more than two linear feet of knives if you hang them side by side. Also in my experience cats like to play with hanging knives.

So is that a "no"?

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

Thank you though!

uh oh

Oh I knew that was a "no", Paul, I know blatant disdain when I see it. Lucky for me I have only a few good knives and no cats. NO. CATS. HURRAH!!!

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, Paul, why so many knives??

It's just how I work best. Here's a pic of me julienning a carrot yesterday:

I keep my favorite knives in clip-on plastic knife safes in a drawer. This is more to discourage other people who cook in my house from using them (there are other, non-favorite and therefore not as well sharpened/cared for knives in the same drawer, not in knife safes and therefore easier to grab and use). If there were little locks for the knife safes, I would use them with alacrity.

Making the non-favorite knives even more accessible by having them stuck to the side of the fridge is an even better plan, I think. Aside from rambunctious cats and potential reversing polarity issues. I think I've convinced myself to try this. Sign me up, Laurel.

Alas. I have been in our place so little, I misremembered our fridge, which is tucked into an alcove. I am going to get the magnet towel bar though.
