im ready to throw it out tomorrow but unfortunately as of now my wastebasket is empty so ive had to keep in the fridge till ive got an immediate space for it. obv downside is looking at it immediately dissuades me from believing food of any kind is a good thing, thus leading to starvation. what should i do?

Even good beef can turn brown due to lack of oxygen. If the meat is not very old and has been wrapped in an airtight container, this is likely the situation. If you expose it to air and it turns red again, you're home free.

If the meat is old and either smells or doesn't turn red, then wrap it up tight and throw it away immediately! Put it in a Dumpster or outdoor trash barrel. Bury it. Throw it in the street (or in a river, or on train tracks). Put in in an enemy's car when he or she is not looking. Make a fragrant and ephemeral pincushion.

Beef that's been hung properly is often brown. Trust your nose and not what you've been taught by supermarkets about fresh meat being scarlet.

If the beef's been ground, however, and is gray-brown, slimy, and smells rancid, just throw it out for gods' sake.
