another summer holiday, another cookout. anyone got a propah chicken kabob recipe? i'd like the marinade be yogurt based. it would be great on a bed of cous cous, broccoli salad, and coconut ice cream. cannot wait!

yogurt marinade is u&k. i think this is the one i used for both chicken and lamb last year:

4 cloves garlic
1 small onion, chopped
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon cardamom
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 cup plain yogurt

adjust spices to taste, and then basically puree everything and let the meat marinate in it overnight.

i'm very excited for holiday grilling. there's a smoker for the grill a while back, so we're going to do a pork shoulder. also, corn is coming in now so i'd like to throw some on and serve it mex-style with mayo and cheese.

Weirdly enough, my holiday cooking is going to consist of making falafels, because the 4th is my daughter's birthday and that's what she requested. When she was in London, she found Gaby's, a Middle Eastern deli that I'd eaten at a couple of times when I was there and told her to be on the lookout for. Gaby's wound up being the go-to lunch joint for Sarah and a lot of her classmates, except for the dingdong who was so homesick and xenophobic she just ate at American fast-food franchises for a month.

I might grill some chicken, too. Maybe make some potato salad.
