Anyone from Philly?

So you Philadelphians, I want to pick your culinary minds.
1 - What are your favourite bakery shops and what is the highlight?
2 - What restaurant do you find to be the best combination of great food and great price (if something actually exists)?
3 - What do you think of this BYOB explosion?
And finally,
4 - What has been your most memorable dining experience in Philly?

I am not from Philly, but I had an awesome brunch at the visually interesting Astral Plane restaurant when I visited.

I just moved to Philly in June, so I'm still figuring everything out. plus, I'm pretty broke, so it limits eating out. that said:

1. Hudson Bakery has some pretty nice breads. the multigrain loaves and rolls are great. Metropolitan is no slouch, by any means. everything I've had from them is good. I love their granola.

2. been to Azafran (on 3rd, just below South St.) a few times. Spanish influenced, seasonal, local ingredients, and you can order the "small plates" which is really fun. they have a ceviche of the day, and are creative without being pretentious. there's a really good Mexican place up the street from Geno's Steaks. I can't remember the name right now, but the price is right and they satisfy my stuck-up Los Angeles standards for Mexican food. Penang in Chinatown is a great place, although it isnt especially cheap and the menu is maybe too vast.

still looking forward to exploring the Vietnamese places along Washington Ave, and some of the places that reputedly offer a fine pork sandwich. also want to try the steak sandwich with broccoli rabe.

oh! a place just opened up in Manayunk/Roxboro that just serves pierogies. if you're interested, I'll dig up the name for you.

3. I heart BYOB: I can be a cheap bastard and bring a budget bottle, or bring a bottle of bubbly if I want, etc. is there a reason to dislike it?

4. I'll have to be here a while longer before I have a really memorable experience. that said, there are about a million restaurants here to try, and I'm looking forward to exploring.

I believe you are speaking of La Taquiera Veracruzana (sp?)
