This is the thread where we anticipate my KitchenAid...

On Friday, just after payday, I decided I had saved up enough money to buy a KitchenAid standing mixer. And then it turned out that Amazon was having a sale on kitchen stuff. And they also had a refurbished 5qt 325-watt mixer at a suspiciously low price (one color, white, was $20 less than all the other colors). So I went for it. $119.

I wasn't sure if it actually existed or not, since one page said they didn't have any of that item, and the other page said they did, and it was oddly priced... but I went for it. And finally, around midnight last night, it shipped.

Now I wait. It should arrive next week.

In an orgasm of excitement (and having a day off) I am making three loaves of bread today. They are all in their first rise.

$119! Crust almighty!

Oh excellent! I LOVE my KitchenAid (bought in Canada 4 years ago and smuggled across the border). It makes outstanding cakes and does great with heavy, sticky dough. The splashguard is worth it as an accessory.

I think KitchenAid accessories might be on my Xmas list. I've read that most of the attachments aren't really worth it.

Is there anything unexpected that you've done with it?

(In related news: I just shaped the baguettes, and they go into the oven in about 45 minutes. I haven't made baguettes before, but the dough smells fantastic, so I'm excited.)

Now I need to figure out where I'll put it. We already have nearly no counterspace. Maybe it'll end up in my bedroom (which is a few feet away from the kitchen).

Wow, it's already here!

I've been trying do think of anything unexpected I've done with it (other than smuggle it over the border, which was really completely out of character). Can't really think of anything - just made fabulously rich and decadent baked goods, excessive amounts of whipped cream, meringue for pavlova, and used the dough hook to make homemade egg noodles, which blew a fuse when I started the microwave up at the same time - so that was pretty unexpected!

The splashguard is the only extra bit I have. The only other thing I'm considering is an additional bowl, so I can do cake batter in one and whip the egg whites in another.

Congrats Chris, on purchasing the Appliance of the Gods! You are now one with the Body.

I have been making things all day! Well, I made two breads and a batch of molasses spice cookies (so now there are sticky molasses stains on the mixer -- every time I think I have cleaned them all, more show up). Now I'm making soup for dinner but I guess it can't really help with that. (Although the soup will be eaten with the baguette, you see...)

I have so rarely used my KitchenAid... I really should.
