chances of me not going outlaw immediately upon starting this approx 0%, with rounding. the old west is not the kinda place to be a good guy imo.

aarrissi-a-roni, Sunday, 28 March 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

I always play moral choice games as a good guy with a cruel streak.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Sunday, 28 March 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

I am officially mega-psyched about this game

antexit, Monday, 29 March 2010 12:17 (fifteen years ago)

this looks a lot better than call of juarez 2. wish i had a ps3.

sonderangerbot, Monday, 29 March 2010 12:34 (fifteen years ago)

Why do people keep saying ps3? Is this an exclusive? Do third-party exclusives still exist?

antexit, Monday, 29 March 2010 12:53 (fifteen years ago)

Def not an exclusive. I'm already preordered for the 360.

Mordy, Monday, 29 March 2010 13:00 (fifteen years ago)

uh i just picked that up in this thread somehow, you're right obviously and i need coffee. good news!

If I get this when it comes out, it's just going to totally take over every free second of my existence, right?

Convenience Fish (snoball), Thursday, 8 April 2010 20:35 (fifteen years ago)

Pretty sure I'm going to spend hours just wandering around doing side missions.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Thursday, 8 April 2010 20:36 (fifteen years ago)

"go on a gentle hunt together"

am *really* looking forward to this.

problem chimp (Porkpie), Thursday, 8 April 2010 20:38 (fifteen years ago)

i am so so pumped for this. if this game doesn't absolutely rule i will never allow myself to dream again.

aarrissi-a-roni, Thursday, 8 April 2010 20:44 (fifteen years ago)

The good thing about this coming out in late May is I don't know of a single other game that is coming out till September or maybe October that I have any interest in, so if it lives up to the videos, I should have plenty of time to get the most out of it.

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 8 April 2010 20:48 (fifteen years ago)

also near my birthday; boosts the chance that I might actually get this game

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 April 2010 20:49 (fifteen years ago)

have thought exactly the same jeff

aarrissi-a-roni, Thursday, 8 April 2010 20:50 (fifteen years ago)

if i do get this i think i'll have to resign myself to not finishing it or seeing 'everything', and just look at it like i'm going wander around deadwood for an hour or two. otherwise it might drive me insane.

emotional radiohead whatever (Jordan), Thursday, 8 April 2010 20:51 (fifteen years ago)

"go on a gentle hunt together"

If your group is anything like the guys I used to game with, that'll last about 30 seconds into the first dispute re:loot. Then it'll turn into Reservoir Dogs, Wild West style.

Convenience Fish (snoball), Thursday, 8 April 2010 20:54 (fifteen years ago)

oh and if multiplayer games can be customised to only allow knives and dynamite as in Lucasarts Outlaws, then this should be fun fun fun

Convenience Fish (snoball), Thursday, 8 April 2010 20:56 (fifteen years ago)

this looks great, but i think i'll have to wait until i finish off lost planet 2 and smg 2

jeff, Thursday, 8 April 2010 21:12 (fifteen years ago)

shameful - I forgot about Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Sin & Punishment 2

** Each NPC follows their own routine and way of a life. For example,
one spend all day working in a blacksmith, then at closing time head
off to the saloon for a couple drinks before going home.
*** NPCs will converse with each other
**** You can converse with NPCs yourself
** NPCs can hold grudges. A man you beat up in the saloon may come back later with a gun.
** NPC houses can be broken into and robbed
*** NPCs store possessions in boxes and trunks in their houses.
** NPC towns can be wiped out and made into ghost towns
*** Ghost towns will revive in 2-3 in-game days
** In the wilderness rarely a minute passes without seeing some indication of an NPC
*** NPCs play an important part of free roaming, through random encounters
**** NPCs can be found doing a large assortment of things, from
ambushes to gunfights to hostage scenarios to simple things like
sitting around a campfire telling stories of Marston's earlier exploits
* Bank Robbing
** Initiated by having a gun drawn in a bank
* Dueling
** Can't duel everybody (like old women), but you can duel other gunslingers

etrian odysseus (cozen), Thursday, 8 April 2010 22:27 (fifteen years ago)

** The World is, in total, roughly twice the size of San Andreas
*** The World is split into three large regions, each larger than GTA IV's Liberty City

etrian odysseus (cozen), Thursday, 8 April 2010 22:28 (fifteen years ago)

maybe i shouldn't get this game, just the thought is overwhelming

I'm getting kinda GTAIV pre-hype flashbacks here. I remember reading one article which said hey, in multiplayer, if you like, you and a buddy can just go for a drive and listen to the stereo and have a chat. Somehow that sounded amazing to me, but did I ever do it in game? Well course not, cos it would've felt ridiculous.

"Gentle hunt" is having a similar effect, it just sounds great to me at the moment. But will I ever do it? Hmm.

JimD, Friday, 9 April 2010 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

I thought the same thing, but a ramble around a huge peaceful landscape with discernable goals that impact your MP profile is different than driving around the same streets you're already sick of from the campaign, doing nothing

antexit, Friday, 9 April 2010 22:40 (fifteen years ago)

I am pretty sure I will be a lone wolf in the multiplayer lobby, not a roam-in-packs guy.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Saturday, 10 April 2010 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

you and a buddy can just go for a drive and listen to the stereo and have a chat

you can't do this in gta4 iirc. the stereo part that is.

this looks to be a more zen like experience, to truly roam at last

sonderangerbot, Saturday, 10 April 2010 00:15 (fifteen years ago)

This looks so rad! haha my little brother is going to hate me for dominating the 360.

two weeks pass...

"We have just over 500 characters who all have names, family members and jobs," said Josh Bass, head of art."You can see a man at 7 a.m. in a Mexican market manning the chicken stand and at 6 p.m. he'll go over to the local pub."

"The morally ambiguous cowboy is the perfect protagonist for the style of game we make," observed Houser. "Sometimes you can be the hero, sometimes you can be the bad guy, and sometimes while you're deciding what to do, a bear comes out of nowhere and eats someone."

Let Amare go ham like he was all you can eating it (B.L.A.M.), Thursday, 13 May 2010 19:50 (fifteen years ago)

I bounced off it the first time for similar reasons - I found Arthur a bit slow and hard to control. But once I got into it, it was well worth my time

Sade of the Del Amitri (dog latin), Sunday, 8 December 2024 21:56 (six months ago)

lol I saw someone joking about doing speed runs of RDR2 that take two months.

The game is huuuuuge, and there are so many stories and details to get lost in. I believe you do get fast travel at some point, but you end up missing so much in between locations. So, I dunno if the first few hours are meant to grab you, per se, but if the gameplay and acting and writing and characters and look of the thing doesn't do it for you from the start, I'm not sure if the story beats or intermittent set pieces are going to make up that deficit. Have you made it your first camp, where you can start interacting with your companions, or watch them interact with each other? I'm not sure when that stuff starts, but it's fun.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 8 December 2024 22:07 (six months ago)

Yeah I am at the camp (the one after the cabins in the mountains) and had a few missions already but the dude does feel very slow to control and the travel by horse is soooo slow: I understand from your post fast travel is only possible later on ? I totally get that there are a lot of things to do and how fun it could be just ttavelling around but I think at this point I don’t want to invest that much time in a game and just get on with the « main » story…. But again it does look fantastic !

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 11 December 2024 09:58 (six months ago)

Fucking long af deer hunting mission turns into “levitus Cornwall” mission with no chance to save

calstars, Saturday, 14 December 2024 19:54 (six months ago)

I think that mission is what sets the game story in motion, iirc.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 14 December 2024 20:23 (six months ago)

Game wants me to play for an hour without saving

calstars, Saturday, 14 December 2024 20:42 (six months ago)

five months pass...

The RDR2 rumors have revved up again. Switch version, some sort of remaster/re-release for other consoles ...
