Yeah, it's super interesting! Admittedly at a level of hardcore codery that means basically nothing to me ("the sound processor writes echo samples into shared RAM," you fools!!) but neat as a reminder of what has to be going on behind the scenes to make emulation appear seamless. And the real/better-than-real questions obviously have lots of resonance in other disciplines and so on.

haha! but yeah, it's absolutely true about emulators becoming "dead consoles", there's a long, long history of dead emulators and romsets that work with versions of said emulators, followed by versions of hacks that only work with those romsets and emulators. it can get to be an ugly mess.
